So just the other day a buddy stole my car and went for a joyride. After returning a good friend of mine went to the store in it. Called me and said there is alot of oil burning smell and a new whirring noise. He brought it back and i took a look.
What i can tell:
My CCV which is venting to atmosphere is now dumping a ton of oil vapors where as only a small amount was coming out before.
There is a whirring noise that is RPM dependent that seems to me like a rod/crank bearing but is coming from the middle of the motor (between 3/5) and is in the valvetrain.
I have so far tested compression and its good across the board... Any more ideas? The engine seems to run fine but this is unsettling...
compression is solid across, def not a ring... video clip?

What makes you think the piston rings are gone? If the compression is good across the boards they must be fine. I agree a video clip would be helpful.
Sometimes CCV things can go bad and piss oil. I've heard of it happening on other cars. I'd take the valve cover off and have a look under there.
That's weird.

Maybe one of the camshaft bearings died.

I realize that your comp tests read ok, but I think he has done you the favor of glazing the bores. He beat on the engine while it was cold.
If it starts smoking out of the tail pipe in a few miles, I won't be surprised.
Hopefully though, the emissions pump/egr system just happened to fail at this time.(I did not check the year of your car, but 96-99 relevant)
The whirring sound is probably the Vanos being unhappy.

Its not a vanos noise, i know that. And the camshaft journal bearings being Fed is also very possible but i wouldnt think it would spew this much oil fumes... My cams had some pretty bad scouring the last time i put them in (3rd HG ) A year and a half or so ago....
And no SAP/Emissions system is in place.
