How to install DIS w/ EasyDIS v44 step-by-step

read through this entire thread and still cant come up with an answer to my question.

exactly which type of serial cable will i need to get it to work with the gt1/easy dis v44?

Will any serial to obd2 cable work?

I think you mean which type of interface will you need. Carsoft or ADS/OBD for MY1987 to MY2006 cars, OBD INPA/EDIABAS, modified VAGCOM or KKL for MY1998 to MY2006 cars only or D-CAN for MY2006 - ?. There are other parameters that need to be addressed for the MY2006 onward D-CAN cars so for practical purposes I only use DIS for models up to 2006

Ok guys I am throughly confused. I want to be able to run GT1/DIS on my laptop for my '99 e39 540iA. I have order a VAGCom cable and a 20pin to OBD2 cable. Is this gonna work???? See links below for what I ordered.

I've used one like that first USB\KKL adapter. It works fine, but battery and auto-detect do not work with it.

That's ok I just want one that works. What about the 20 pin connector? Does that allow me to do more with the car than the USB/KKL adapter? Also do Ineed to modify the USB/KKL adapter?

I don't think you'll gain anythign wih the 20-pin adapter, so hold offo n it, and you won't need to modify the USB -OBD adapter unless you want to try and get auto-detect to work.

O.K. so I have GT1/DIS up and running with VMware and I have ordered my Vagcom KLL ODB2 to USB cable. Anything else I need to load on my computer or am I ready to go once I get my cable? Do I need INPA?

No problem, I had to as this question so that I do not give stupid advise..

You cannot do a successful API test if INPA is not installed correctly, so to answer your initial question, yes, you need to install INPA before DIS will work.

Then you need to get to this screen to do the API test:


And a successful test will give this screen:


All the information to get to this successful test is in the forum here, you also need to take a close look at David's "Read this first" document which will explain how to set up your networks if it is not done correctly yet

Thanks Katvis. Now that I know I need to install INPA, I am having troubles with the installation. I have downloaded the 3 INPA 6.4.3 files from the NCS folder from 4shared.com and the ENGLISH SETUP.pdf and the Installprog901.exe from the Install folder. When I run the exe. file it takes me to the setup and I get an error message right here:

selection makes INPA run in English which is kind of useful!)

When I click continue it gives me an error message: UNLHA32 Error Report (on UnlhaMain : 2) A LZH Archive not found. : 'C:/DOCUMENTS.LZH'
Then it closes the installation.

The correct installation program is Instaprog. Since you are in the US, you may also prefer to select the BMW Group rectification programs USA rather than UK. It is also in English, but will be specific to your car.

This is because you have attempted to install the software directly from your desktop, after unzipping, it MUST be copied to a DVD and installed from the DVD or the file extraction process will not work correctly and the .LZH archive file will not be found.

I used Daemon Tools Lite to install inpa/ediabas from the ediabas.nrg iso. Easier and probably more reliable than burning and installing from a DVD.

Hey Guys,

I'm having trouble changing the BDFLUSHR. Following the 8A page, I get into SCOADMIN fine, but am having a hard time finding "tune parameters"

Any help would be appreciated.

Since I use tablet machines for my scanners, I don't have optical drives. I just unrar'd the INPA to a USB thumbdrive, and used that as my install media. It seems to have installed fine, no errors. I haven't gotten to testing it yet.... still sifting config info from many forum posts.

eosco, you need to get into the root directory. The easiest way is to go to the scoadmin network screen from the calibrating touch screen menu in DIS and left click into a blank area of the screen, then use Ctrl+SysRq to pop up the black login screen. If this is the first time you have accessed the root directory, login using root then choose option 1 to choose a password. Type the password (which will not be visible), then [ENTER], then type it again to confirm. After you have entered the password the second time you will see a few lines of text. Hit [ENTER] and wait for a # prompt, then type scoadmin.

I installed this following Randomy's perfect guide yesterday and I have a small issue as the title DIS screen is in German language although I set the US English during installation. I thied it 3 times, still the same result. Anyone with the same problem or with a solution?

Cube, assuming you based your setup on the EasyDIS base program, what version of DIS program are you using (v39, v44, v57 etc.) and what country did you set as the default?
