I am currently getting ready to try loading GT1. I have 3 files of easydis & 9 files of Gt1 4.4. These were pulled off of David MC 4 share site. Is this correct?
Correct.
ok, when I start my VMWare machine I press F2 as soon as the black screen appears, but I cannot enter the BIOS for it. It just boots from the host machine.
any settings I need to adjust?
Thanks
Edit: the host is a Vista based system

Read this supplementary information page I have written to Randomy's excellent installation guide and it will explain how to access the bios easily. http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...2&postcount=81
I had seen that page before but completely forgot about it.
Now when I try to open the Configuration file I cannot select notepad or any other program to open it with.
When I select "open with" I am given an association error message that reads this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.
Any ideas?

Nevermind, I had to change the program windows used to open it to notepad TEMPORARILY and just open it normally to change the line. Then I reset the opening program back to vmware

**** Also, when you put in the BIOS line, DO NOT use the quotation marks. I kept getting an error message saying that bios value 5000 was not a valid integer. I did not understand until I looked closer.
In the error message the 5000 value was typed like this ""5000"" so, the program automatically adds the quotation marks.
So the line I used was this:
bios.bootDelay=5000
Hope that helps anybody else who may be stuck here

This must be a Vista thing, as XP requires the quote marks and works as typed.
ok, new issue.
When I boot the VM with DISbase in the virtual cd, it boots from it but does not install it.
There is a page worth of text, then a page full of ....................
A slight pause
Then a display of:
This easy install was brought to you by bmwecu.org
the last line is:
Rebooting from 0 partitions
GT-1 does not install and I do not get the message to remove the cd and restart the machine as described in the How-to
I've tried to mount the easy dis as an .nrg and a .iso image and they both get the same result
I also re-downloaded the 3 easy dis files and re-tried with no success.
any ideas?

what happen if you restart your VMWare? If DIS_base installed correctly it will progress to the DIS screen.
Everytime I installed my DIS it just halted, I then entered "init 6" at the boot prompt, press enter and virtual machined restarted and started to the DIS screen.
For me personally it worked without having to go into the bios everytime and select boot from CD. I never touched the bios, just mounted the nrg in Daemon tools and started my virtual machine, also when I rebooted the virtual machine after the initial install I never went into the bios, if the DIS_base installed correctly you will land at the pages where you need to select you language and BMW as car to continue.
hope this help
Randomy is using a "china" Carsoft cable/interface.
I bought one from http://www.carsoftwest.com/
Actually Carsoft cable/interface. Tested on both Randomys and my machines.
No difference.
So buy from Tom. Instock and no overseas shipping.

I'll have to try this Katvis.
By the way, my post count on M5 board will not allow me to send pm's so that is why I have not replied to you.
I called my instructors where I took fast track and they described how to get to expert mode so I figured I'd try downloading dis and trying it before I tried walking you through it.

No problem, I got some help from another member here on bimmerforums and have posted the step by step here as well:
DIS Expert mode
cheers

Still appearing for me as well.

I believe that it is fixed, please take a look.
Dirtbuster: Please edit that post and un-quote my OP.

It seems to be working again. Not sure what what you mean about editing the OP.
Thanks
OP = Orignal Post, it is 30 images and having it quoted makes the thread much longer than it needs to be.
I have been trying to get GT1 loaded all day. With help from Katvis, I have been making progress. When I get to the company screen, I keep losing control of my mouse. It has been very slow, but it eventually stops. Does anyone know what might be happening? It seems like I am timing out, if that is possible?

Ok, I'm about at my wits end here.
Has anyone gotten this to work on a Vista host machine?
I still can't get past this issue:
When I boot the VM with DISbase in the virtual cd, it boots from it but does not install it.
There is a page worth of text, then a page full of ....................

Are you making certain to set the CD to be the very first boot device?
I think I got my problem fixed. I added 512mb more ram, then reset the virtual machine settings. Seems to have fixed the problem. Loading Dis Base & Disv44 with Daemon was a challenge. It took me a while to understand what I was doing wrong!
Oh well, it only took time!, but I hope I learned from it.
partition size is 18.635 Gb and fully allocated?
yeppers, I also tried increasing the memory to 768 as dirtbuster suggested, no luck
also just noticed that currently occupied space on the hard drive is 33.8MB, is that an issue?

Yes that is an issue, it should be taking up 18.635 Gb of space.
