i honestly dont think i have the time and money right now to maintain the 6er. it needs a new transmission and i dont have the money to go get a new 1 or to tear this 1 down and rebuild it.
my friend said he would be willing to pay $1300 for it as long as i help with the work that is needed.
i found a 87 325i 5 speed for $600 obo. and i can acquire almost any part i need for free from my brothers friend.
i am really not having fun spending all the time trying to find parts for it.
i hate to be beat by a car i love
opinions??

a car isn't worth it if by result you have no money. no matter how awesome it is
Currently looking for e24. PM me if you see anything interesting.
Also, looking for my old car. Sold it in 2014 to someone in Northern CA. He sold it shortly thereafter and doesn't remember to who. It was a bronzit '85 euro, lowered, headlight wipers/washers (that worked!), rear black spoiler, 5 speed, nutria interior (however i removed original buffalo leather interior and replaced with manual sport seats (front and rear).
well its partly because i dont have the time to really save and by the time i get it fixed i will be putting it up for winter. im still gonna miss it, atleast i will still get to see it if my friend buys it though

^I agree..having no money because of a car is not a smart decision..just let it go and if your still young, im sure when your a little older you'll be able to be able to afford a money pitt

I found myself running low on cash to maintain my 6 as well. I parked it under a car cover, flew to Orlando instead, and bought a dakota for less money than it would have taken to get the 6 roadtrip worthy. I'll be well-employed in a few months and the restoration will begin.

I personally grew too attached to my 6 to get rid of it. I'm suffering withdrawal like symptoms from not seeing it daily though. My car is in Colorado and I'm not. I'm sure you'll be able to find another without too much difficulty later in life when you're able to afford it. I'm just a few weeks shy of my 20th birthday, so I know how hard it is to afford the maintenance on these cars. I'll have a pretty decent paying job after I finish STEP though.

High school? Geeez when I was in highschool (6ers were $65K brand new) I had a Volkswagen bug $300. After going through college, a couple jobs, marriage, kid, a couple homes and several up and down markets...I finally was able to afford my $5K "dream car". 20+ years later. You have lots of time to fill your mind with other things more important. Although I do know the love of a 6er is hard to replace.

Hi Danny...
"my friend said he would be willing to pay $1300 for it as long as i help with the work that is needed."
U see, the sixer is a car that keeps on giving...and taking and taking and taking!
Some wonder why one in good shape goes for ten thousand....or more!
yeah, hopefully they wont jump in price to much. i know im still going to want 1 when im out of school. but the reasons you listed are part of the reason im finding a 3

The first new BMW I drove was an '81 320is (with the spoiler, recaro's etc) factory colors were limited to solids (Red, White and Black) but they were a bit more civilized than what I ended up buying which was a '76 (last year) 2002.
Personally I would go for a 2002 Tii in need of some work cuz even though they need work they still operate just fine. (get the four speed) and go as old as you can go to protect your investment (They made Tii's up until 74 IIRC but those had DOT bumpers)
This car is perfect for college as the trunk is huge and it fits 4 comfortably.
A screwdriver or two and a set of metric wrenches is all you need as it's mostly a mechanical beast...nimble, quick and like the six, will never be mistaken for a Renault! The 2002 regular issue is going for about 1200.00 with less than 70k miles and it's Lapis Blue which is a great color. It isn't running which means you will have to go see it...(in the next hour as there are 30 bids up!)

Check out this '73 Tii going for $25k (This is protecting your investment once you get it all fixed up)

well it looks to me like you live in the middle of an Indiana corn field. Is storage an issue? Park it in the barn with a cover on it for the winter. save what money you can and get the trans fixed next year.
don't give up and quit crying in your beer!

If it is not fun then move on. If it is not fun then you are not doing the car justice. Sell her, help your mate and get yourself a project you can afford.
well its a fun car. i enjoy working on it i just lack the money required to finance a 6. and i was a little sarcastic with the cornfield, i live next to some. i have a garage for it but my dad is kinda pushing me to get rid of it so i wont have to spend as much money on it. with the e30 i can get most my parts for free

Then sell it to someone who'll look after it and buy back in when you can commit financially. Nothing wrong with that. The mature decision would be to sell her so she is saved and then commit to one when you can do it justice.
