I like the clear tubing. I think it is a good idea. Wish they made clear main hoses. Wouldn't look great, but it would have a couple benefits.

The clear vinyl tubing, on the coolant overflow pipe only, is specifically so that I can see whether there's been any overheating and escape of coolant.

I got the tank mounts and brackets special order from the dealership. The price wasn't that bad really, just had to wait a week to get them in.

Could you share the part numbers for the brackets please?

Has anyone been able to order the brackets lately? I tried to have my local dealer order them yesterday along with the vent pipe and they were not able to do so unless I have a euro car VIN that's registered in the US. Looking to find these two, mainly the bracket.

As long as I could get the front plastic clip for mounting the E30 tank, I would be comfortable making the rest of the bracketry. Pretty simple if you have the examples in your hand or can see photos. Plastic clip may be here:

Maybe these parts can be salvaged from E30? Though not so many of those around.

I am still trying to find a diagrahm that shows all the parts and part numbers needed for this. Does anyone know what the part number for the hose that connects the tank to the hard line behind the head? I read I could just cut my end of my current coolant hoses but wanted something factory prebent. Thanks all!!

If you find that one let me know. I'd like a new one. Mine is from when I did this in 2008.

That hose seems to be NLA. And all you need is to plug a Euro M3 into RealOEM for the part numbers.

    Hose is #14, PN 11531317590.

Pelican Parts lists it as a lower radiator hose, though it is not:

    http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...&I1.x=7&I1.y=3

May have to be a special order from a dealer or an order from the UK or Europe or Canada. ECS, one of the big US parts companies, reports it is NLA.

If you can get a good parts shop friend to let you in the back of the store with the tank and pipe in your hand or fittings that match their size, you might come up with something that works by searching the hangers or shelves.

There is no comparison between a mod that actually increases convenience significantly and causes no problem whatsoever, and one that has little to no performance increase and causes a problem by the removal of the air pump.

The euro tank is a very cool mod, but it has to be done right, and it isn't worth it if it's going to cause a whole host of new problems. There is no suitable place to relocate the secondary air pump unless you plan to remove your windshield wiper reservoir (again, this introduces a new problem - no wiper fluid).

I'm not saying the OP is stupid - I'm saying that the OP should have at least done it with the proper OEM hardware and lines (rather than rubber tubing that's prone to cracks and all that).
EBay sim, $120, 2 hours if your time to install and jump out O2 sensors. Big whoop. I'm in CA, did this, 6 years now, no CEL and no visual fails for smog.

I hate to bump an old thread but one of the brackets is now NLA and Euro blocked from BMW.

Does anyone have a photo of a fabricated alternative mount?

Just FYI. if your looking for the hose from the tank to the pipe go to your local Mercedes dealer and ask for part#271 203 01 82. Exact fit. Even has the larger end for the tank.

I have factory brackets riveted in place, but in studying them, I think I could easily make something that would work. In the front, all you need is something to hold the clip linked in #109. Get a piece of flat metal, bend it into a bracket you can rivet to the shock tower, put a bolt or screw through it so the threads face up, and thread the plastic clip onto it. You sort of need to have the tank and clip in hand and be attempting to place it. In the rear, you just need a flange for the tank tail to slide into. Remember to set the bracket heights so the tank is level.

    Bump:

For the sake of consolidation and clarity, there are three part numbers in this thread for the coolant level sensor:

61312250421 which is NLA (No Longer Available)

    61318360458 which is NLA

and 61311378320 which is still available but is actually the part number fro the E30 expansion tank.

Since 61311378320 - the part # for the E30 appears the only sensor that's still sourceable, can we confirm this is viable for use in the E36 with the Euro expansion tank?

for the 61311378320 instead of using ECStuning and dropping 50$ on a sensor.. use FCPEuro and get the FEBI one for 9$

Or use ECS and get one for $7.

The difference is the brand. OE vs OEM vs Genuine vs Aftermarket.

I have no problem saving a few bucks buying the aftermarket sensor. I'm just wanting to confirm that the E30 sensor part number is interchangeable with the NLA Euro sensor part numbers.

I don't know the answer to that. The sensor just breaks or makes ground contact so there is no complex signal passing through. Its more a question of whether the E30 tank is identical or not. Maybe the sensor hole is bigger or smaller or uses a different retaining cap, for example.

I guess I'll order one of the cheaper, aftermarket E30 sensors since the options are limited.

Maybe someone with hands-on experience will see this and reply.

If the E30 sensor turns out to be no good, I guess I'll try to source one of the NLA Euro sensors the next time I'm in Germany. I travel there several times a year.
