i found a pair of bbs 5 lug basket weaves at my local junk yard. they look like they are multipiece. are they worth picking up for a profit? the yard wants $50 a wheel i think.

Are you sure they're real BBS's? Sounds like a dumb question, but there are a lot of knockoff "BBS style" wheels out there.

those wheels drive me crazy, here in argentina they are almost IMPOSSIBLE to find, they never came here, if there is one it has been imported by common people. it would be the perfect touch for my inka

So I can take my 15x7 et25 RS's make them 15x8 and have et12.30 and what size tires would you suggest?

That's correct. However depending on the type of RSs, you will need a spacer. Tire size is up to you. 205 won't have much of a stretch, maybe a little. Hieght wise 45 will be nice

RS001's. I thought 12-15 was a perfect ET for these cars. Why would I need a spacer if that was the case. Good tires with 45 are hard to find?

The problem is, is the "stock" ET of the wheels. If the ET is high enough (other words the back spacing), you will have the inside of the barrells hit the tie rob. Your RS's are stock ET25 so I think you might be fine to clear the tie rob. Putting RS's on an E21 is tricky because of the very low offset as opposed to an E30 or other VW's. When you change the lip, all you are going is change the ET from the center out, not center in, ie the back spacing of the wheel. (Make sense?)

For example, my RS's are RS033. The stock ET was 34, this would have the inside of the wheel hit the tie rod (again to high of a back spacing), so there needed to be a minimum of a 10mm spacer to put the wheel out more to clear the tie rod.

    Hope all this makes sense.

so this rule does not apply? If I have a 15x7 wheels and go to a 15x8 then I still have et25 and still have to run spacers?
    Kevin
Sorry confused from your statement below.
Here are the measurements with various size lips. For every .5” you go up on the lips, the ET drops by 6.35mm. Let’s take a BBS RS wheel that is 15x6.5 et 34 to use as an example:

    1.0” = 15x7 et 27.65
    1.5” = 15x7.5 et 21.3
    2.0” = 15x8 et14.95
    2.5” = 15x8.5 et 8.6
    3.0” =15x9 et2.25

I can tell you that on my BBS RMs, 15 x 7.5 and 15 x 8, the 5 and 8 mm spacers are just too small, I still hit the tie rods I had to use a 15mm.
I think the offset is greater on the RMs than it is on the RS.

What is your offset? Can I run a 16x9 et 15 no spacers?

The "offset" of a wheel - what distance does this number actually define? I just can't visualize it or what the effect using spacers has.

Thanks for your wisdom - I love these wheels and I'm excited to get to cracking on them!

I'm answering this old question, just because its stickied and read frequently. I have RMs with 1" lips in the front and 2" in the rear, 10mm spacers all around with 195/50/15s. And, they fit perfectly with rolled fenders. I really couldn't ask for a better fit.

I love this thread. The only thing it's missing is what the lug pattern is for each model of RS.

Her's the wheels i just finished for my car.
My advice - get someone else to strip the old paint off...

do people recommend using wheel cleaners/wheel protectant of any kind on polished lips?

Sorry to be digging up an old thread, but I didn't want to create a new one.

Wheel measurements confuse me a bit, can anyone tell me if 15 inch BBS rm with 6.5j and 38et will fit an E21?

I know that the ET is the distance from the center of the wheel to the mounting face, but it's hard to visualize it in my head...

It will not fit. The stock ET for the E21 is +13. A 15in wheel will have to have a low offset (or use spacers) to clear the tie-rod. If you were to get a 16in wheel, it would be okay as the tie-rod would fit inside the wheel.

One thing to consider, when you build BBS wheels, most change the lips to go wider, which does lower the offset, but does not affect the backspacing, hence the need for spacers regardless.

Also, way later in posting. I don't check here much anymore.

No worries, I'm still trying to find the right wheels.

I've found this site that allows you to visualize the changes and tells you how the wheels will fit in the car in relation to the stock ones. Very cool.

Unless I used some ridiculously big spacers the wheels I mentioned would not fit.

I'm considering now some schmidt th replicas, still not sure if they'll look too "stance", as I'm not going for a stanced look. I'll have to figure it out, I hate seeing the 13's, they look so small
