Emergency brake can be done by carefully (with a cloth wrapped screwdriver for instance) prying up on the wood, it will eventually pop out. It is very very careful that you sand this piece down, especially the hole in which the actuator comes through otherwise it will get stuck.
You can also salvage the black button from your ashtray by using an exacto knife and prying it up as well. To me its just that little extra bit to make it look that much more OEM.
Here are a few pictures of mine which I redid. I love the look, its so much more modern and sporty than the wood. I also love the contrast titanium gives to the all black in my cabin. I might go all carbon though at some point, as I like the subtle look of that as well..
New shift knob is next on "the list"...

the flip door, that black piece pops off in the middle so you can wrap it and then add the piece at the end for a cleaner look other then wrapping over it..

how do you get the hinged piece that covers the tape deck off.. FYI mine is cracked and the dealer wanted almost $300 for a new one!! so nonetheless i want to be sure i know exactly how to take it off without further damage. Thanks!
[quote=ganesht;16940688]is that button for the tpms?
The button on mine is for the cruise control, not sure if everyone's is the same.
I covered that in the write-up:
Now you can work on the door for the cassette or business CD. The cover is held on to the door itself with 3 little clips that press on to three post. You will destroy these clips no matter how you remove them so I just cut mine off with a dremmel tool. The replacement part# is 51-45-8-220-836.
You do not need to remove the entire door assembly to remove the cover. You can cut the clips off with the door in place. I removed mine because it was flipping up very fast and I needed to fix that problem also.

The button on the dash panel is to turn on the cruise, the controls on the steering wheel do everything else, but you have to turn it on by pressing the button on the dash panel.

Great write up bagman...I will be sure to utilize this in my upcoming cf wrap!!!
I did mine today and it's GREAT ! Thank you very much for posting this !!!
Thanks a lot for this post, I did my car today and it came out great, $45 and labor (about 6 hours), well worth it. Love the new look. I bought my cf fabric from neffy wrap ($35 for a yard, enough for probably 3 cars) and it is great quality.
Here it is:
Gotta love it.

Ok great i will be ordering this today! but for the cassette door since i have to cut the 3 chips off do i need to replace them in order to reinstall it or can it stay on there without the 3 chips
Hi Cantesanu,
Speaking as a Liverpool supporter here as well, you NEED an updated steering wheel !!
As your info says your a 2002, the later Sport steering wheels just simply swap over! it'd really freshen up your interior!
Shamless plug as well, PM if you'd like to see some of the steering wheels I have here with me which I think need to go on a fellow Reds supporter!
Walk on !!!!!
Cheers, Dennis! West London UK! &, Youu'll Nnnevverrr Walkkk Alonnne !!
Yes I realize this thread is old but I never saw this before.
The button on my dash is indeed for TPMS
ALL cruise control - ON and accel can be accessed via the cruise control knob OR buttons on the steering wheel. My hands never have to leave the wheel to lock in a speed

So nobody did mention how to take out the e brake handle. I'm interested to know.
I can't believe how I've missed this thread...
Rock on bagman!!! Even though I've been selling this fabric for almost 2 years already, I never knew you can do that with the shift knob! I actually replaced mine with a wetlay cf knob and to tie it up with the rest of the interior, i also purchased a wetlay cf e-brake and steering wheel trim. If I only knew!!!!! It's always nice to know more about this ingenius product! hahaha!
Do you mind if I use this thread as a linky when people ask me how to do the install on the E39? This beats my version, lol =P!

I have to ask...what's up with that cup holder...?...you make it out of clear plex..?
Those CF pieces look great man... !
fantastic writeup, I believe this will be one my first mods. Thanks for the info.
Subsribed. Great write-up. Mine is coming apart soon for a local shop to wrap, can't wait to get rid of the wood. For some reason I really liked it in my old A8, but for this car it just doesn't seem right. You all understand.
