    Windshield Glass Repair

    Hey guys,

The windshield in my 335i has a huge crack in it so I'm getting it replaced through Allstate insurance. They gave me a list of auto glass companies local to me to do the install, any comments on these guys:

    Union Auto Glass
    Clear Vision
    Michael's Glass
    Glass Doctor
    CNR
    Safelite

I had my E36 windshield replaced last year and Safelite sealed the shit out of it. A little too much that I wouldn't want them touching a 2007 car. I want someone to do a quality job, and they need to be an Allstate Program Participant. Any companies within an hour of me I'd be happy with..just want it done right.

    Thanks guys,
    Mike

Will allstate not allow the dealer to do it? I'm sorry, but from the aftermarket windshield jobs that I have seen at the dealer, they are horrible.

Dealers don't do windshields. Their body shops will get the job (or whoever they use) and 90% of the time they sublet it to a glass installer. It's considered a specialized task these days.

Safelite is the K-Mart of glass installers. They'll hire anyone with a pulse. I've had both good and bad experiences with them. I'd suggest asking the BMW dealer or their body shop who they recommend. Most shops are pretty loyal to their glass guy of choice. If he's on your list, bingo.

Not sure if you have a Glass America near by, or if it's approved by your insurance. But I had my windshield replaced by them in my m3 locally, and they did a great job, and use great products for installation. They use PPG glass only.

Diamond Glass (800) 664-7317. Many body shops use them.

Dealers just call those names on the list and go for the cheapest guy, not the best in quality. Better call direct and watch them do it.

Your dealer must be unique then. I don't know of a single dealer of any brand in my area that installs their own windshields. Not one.

Not many dealers do it, but yes, dealerships do it. I do them all the time, they are cake.
