Can someone direct me to a DIY for a 1990 e34 535i reverse light switch on an automatic. Can't find one anywhere, or if someone could tell me how to do it. U.S. model, I heard it's in the gear shift console but I have no idea about how to do this. I have no reverse lights at all
I just found this in another subforum and moved it to the E34 forum.

the switch is at the gear selector shaft, under the cover plate, same switch that gives u P-R-N-D etc. If u take it out it will be the bottom most track(s), closest to the front of the car. This is a common point of failure for this switch, I have seen them fully burned away, melted blobs of plastic, etc, I think the switch is under rated and have contemplated boosting it with a relay.

If the interior trunk lights also are out check that the trunk light assemblies are actually plugged in.
