The engines only going to take in as much air mass as the engine was built to allow. Sure the filter, its location, and the routing plays a role- but its not as large of a role as many would like to believe. Its not like the engines sucking in air so ferociously there's actually spots near the filter that ambient air has yet gotten a chance to fill in. As long as the filter is encased for protection, has room to allow air to circulate, and there's an airway for cool air to come through- you're good.

If that were the case then there would be more cars like this.

Just completed this mod as well as cleaned my ICV, MAF with some contact cleaner, throttle body flap and I removed the plastic grids on either side of the MAF.

Result is my 540 now idles like its brand new however I do not hear a sound difference although if there is a minute difference in sound it may be drowned out from my straight pipe from Y resonator back.

No doubt there is increased airflow on the intake however, cheers for this little mod.

Just re-installed my intake resonator back in my M52 intake setup. Yes it was a tid bit louder without it but the acceleration is a lot more smooth with the resonator.

    +1^

Removing your intake resonator will hurt your low end power.

the intake silencer is a helmholtz resonator , there is one in the rear muffler as well. The intake silencer helps increase power a bit as well as smoothen out the air. You will lose a bit of low end if u remove , thank you
