Got the ADS interface from doitauto.de. Needless to say, as everyone else, I can connect to some modules (ABS, central locking, kombi test) but I can't connect to the DME. It says: "data transmission to control unit disturbed". After closing this error, I get another pop-up error saying: "DM331K20 not found". The file exists in the /ECU folder, so it can't be that.
Any ideas guys?
Hi, been over a year since I got rid my e38 but I'm sure I remember that message and I think on mine it was intermittent. If kept trying to connect (i.e. going back to the main screen of INPA then back to the dme) using the keyboard shortcuts to do it as quickly as I could, it'd eventually connect long enough to read the codes. I always assumed it was noise/too many messages on the obd buss.... Certainly worth a try. I think also it worked better on mine with the engine off (but with a very good battery)...
Good luck.
I have an E38 740i built week 44 of 1994 and with just the 20-pin plug in the engine bay, the vehicles main fault is that the SRS light does NOT ever come on (self test included) and this is keeping it off the road.
Also the tamper dot is showing and the VIN stored in the IKE does not match the car.
To fix this I believe I need to get INPA working and use NCS, however I haven't had any success getting working comms yet, using an old laptop with a real serial port, WinXP and a RS232 converter box identical to this one shown on youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wg72J0cH0FY
Using this gear and carsoft I can get comms to the engine and transmission....
I have configured INPA (v3.01) to use ADS and installed the directnt.sys driver for it but NCS tells me:
VIN is faulty
COAPI-2020: no answer from ECU
IFH-0009: NO RESPONSE FROM CONTROLUNIT
on another forum someone has stated that :
because of a quirk in EDIABAS that means the Interface = ADS* adaptor must be on COM1/IRQ11/3F38h address
you can read that posting here: http://www.bimmerforums.co.uk/forum/...lained-t85191/
I can change some of the serial ports settings but IRQ11 is not available (graphics adapter is using that) and as for the IO 3F38 that doesn't look right!
can someone please confirm whether or not my RS232 converter box would work with ADS and if I need to force COM1 to use IRQ11?
cheers

It appears that your source has given the wrong settings. I believe the correct ones are COM1 0x3f8 irq4 but google can surely confirm or deny this. These settings are not unique to EDIABAS; they are a sort of universal default for COM1. What is unique to EDIABAS is the lack of configurability. It was previously impossible to reconfigure EDIABAS to use different settings, so you had to make sure your serial port matched those settings, but now there's a tool to fix that.
Thanks, I came to the conclusion that the other posting regarding COM1 and IRQ11 and the odd IO address was wrong but still no luck getting INPA to work with my car, but Carsoft can a little using the same cables and setup, so should INPA be able to as well?
I really need to be able to do this ASAP as my car is off the road until I can fix the SRS issue (fails its road safety test)
Get a real ADS interface and throw that in the trash.

so even though carsoft can to some extent connect with the car IPNA will not using the same setup?
where I am (in New Zealand) there isn't much available locally but what I have already...
The interface you are using is a Carsoft interface. Carsoft interfaces are wired differently from EDIABAS interfaces, so can be difficult to make work with INPA - as Iceman said, you would be better off shelving the Carsoft interface and getting yourself an ADS interface from rv8flyboy at interfaces4beemers.net or one of Benemorius' Tiny ADS interfaces.
righto... last night I emailed rv8flyboy but no reply yet so will go to the site you listed (or PM him)
I am hoping to find someone in NZ with one for sale or loan as I need it ASAP to drive legally on the road again (that is if it solves the issue of the SRS light being always OFF because the IKE is not functioning correctly after the swap)

This may sound like a silly question, but have you pulled the cluster to verify that the bulb is Okay. Unfortunately I have read some posts on other forums where members have suggested "fixes" for problematic SRS warning lamps, which include removing the bulb from the rear of the cluster and placing masking tape over the inside of the warning lamp indicator to prevent the backup warning LED from being visible. For my money, I would rather just fix whatever triggered the warning lamp and be done with it.
The tamper dot is another issue and will probably require PASoft to fix properly.
yes, I have broken into the instrument cluster (there are fixed plastic X pieces that must be twisted to remove the clear cover) and applied voltage across the LEDs and the SRS and oil and check engine lights all work, the only lamps or bulbs I could see are those for illumination.
I think I'll have to shell out on a replacement Airbag Control Unit just in the hope this makes the SRS light come on (and probably stay on due to a fault) so maybe I'l do this first, or I have thought of a very dodgy way to make the SRS LED light up just like the ABS one ...
i have little bit of a problem i missing a file the m50 2.0 1 file. and i couldn't find it anywhere to download if someones can send me e link or even the file it self i would be really thank that!

No problem at all. Those errors make sense to me. If you let me know exactly what model, year and engine that you have, I can tell you exactly how to fix it. The "?????" indicates that the Ediabas run-time server operating in the background of INPA, can't work out which engine management system you have.

thank you so much!
More thread resurrection. My laptop is running WinXP SP3 and has a true serial port. I have Ediabas 6.4.3 installed, updated with 6.4.7, and INPA 5.0.1, a Tiny ADS interface and a quality 20 pin to 16 pin adapter. The car is an E38 750iL from1999.
This set up communicates with all modules except of course the DMEs:
The left one response is:
”IFH-0010 Data transmission to control module disturbed. Program will be stopped”. Followed by:
”API check job status: Error#95
SYS-0005: Object file not found
API error or no such result”
The right one response is:
”Requested control unit DM5212RO, DM5212L2, DM5213L3 not found. Control unit found. Program will be stopped”
The not found units all have the exact same .prg file names present in the Ediabas / Ecu folder.
The INPA / SGDAT folder has these similar but not the same .ipo files, 5212L and 5212R.
I spent quite some time getting to this point, has anyone found a solution please?
Did you ever get an answer?
I did get it all working in the end. What do you want to know?
