Whats your take on installing side skirts?

I am torn between the use or non-use of side skirts or even rear spoilers. Although they do give the 6er a different lower profile and sporty stature, I'm not sure if I like it or dislike it yet. Sometimes I like it on a car and sometimes and don't. Please share your personal taste and reasons why you like or dislike the extra skirts and lower back spoilers.

I actually want to install sideskirts on my 6er.....not to keen on the rear spoiler....
i also want to install a front spoiler. The car would look good if lowered it too but i'm afraid of scraping the muffler all the time....

I strongly dislike the use of both items. I don't really know why, not very 'classy' I guess in my opinion.

I think they give a more aggressive look. I'm all for it...

I am not a fan of the side or rear skirt look; a little too '80s for me.

If you decide to install side skirts I suggest you use the OEM M-Tech kit. It fits well, is subtle but the most important feature is that doesn't create areas where dirt, road debris and mud will get deposited. All that =rust.

My L6 had Zender side skirts on it when I purchased it and I must admit that it does still look pretty good.

the car looks much sleeker without the skirts and wing. i personally think it makes the car look bulkier instead of shark like haha. want to change up the look try changing your front air dam or shaving the bumbers if you dont want the euros. lol i shaved mine on my 88' and it looks hella better =D

I too dislike side skirts or rear spoilers. Well, that isn't necessarily true. I like them if they are of excellent build quality and installed PROPERLY. I've seen some shitty installs where they start to warp and it really just attracts bad attention. If you do get a set, I'd definitely go OEM and definitely spend some extra money and get them professionally installed and painted. But it does change the look of the entire car which could be your thing, but I like mine original

    My .02 cents

Hey flipakine: what did you do to "shave your bumpers"?? pics?

Haven't found skirts or rear spoiler that I really like so I am in the process of building my own rear spoiler (paper mache spolier). I find the zender package to be a little hard. Personally there needs to be something to offset the hard lines of my 88 air dam. Thought there was a post here of someone who glassed in side skirts on their 6.. looked really good. (thought I am not an advocate of adding glass/bondo to a metal body for addons)..

    side skirts

The '82 6 I juest bought came with skirts and rear spoiler.Itook off the side skirts and found both rockers had rusted badly and I had to do extensive bodywork. The rear spoiler was easy top remove and fortunately no rust had accumulated. As for looks ,I like the spoiler but don'tlike the skirts

Simple, classy and subtle skirts such as the oem M-Technic or the one that was available through BMP Design (AC Schnitzer?) years ago do add to the sexy lines of the Six. Whereas, IMHO, the clunky looking Zender skirt and the over the top Racing Dynamics skirt detract from the lines and shapes of the Six.

Always have felt that the stock rocker panel design with its single rubber trim has a rather unfinished look to it, especially cars with equipped with front airdams. The bottom edge of the rocker panel sits on a higher plane that the front spoiler, therefore these two body panels do not flow into each other. A thin skirt will solve this problem.

The rear end of the Six without a spoiler does not look very good in my humble opinion. Definitely one the weakest styling element of the 6 Series, kind of reminds me of a receding chin. Pretty sure Bmw realized this shortcoming and implemented the use of the various rear spoilers throughout the years. Although the rear spoiler is a full functioning aerodynamic appendage, it is essentially there for the looks.

Striking stance of a Euro M with the full M-Technic body kit (front airdam, sideskirts and rear apron).

The very subtle BMP skirt blends in very well with the body lines of the classic big coupe.

These 2 coupe pics were shot back in the 2004 PSF. Are the owners of these 2 fabulous car here on this forum?

I really tend to dislike skirts and rear aprons but I love sharks with rear spoilers. They look great without them too but either the all black euro style or the M-Tech spoilers finish off the back of any 6 very nicely.

That front airdam is just standard issue for the euro M. Sweet car, I really like the wheels.

Mtech spoiler looks so much better than the all foam or rubber ones. Front spoiler is a must to me otherwise it loses it's aggressive stance. I think the color of the car decides whether or not side skirts look good. I think darker cars are more receptive to the side skirts. I must admit I haven't seen many tho.
