That is the hyper black finish, thanks
They look pretty silver once cleaned. I often forget I technically have a "black" wheel. They just get a bit darker with brake dust, but never look flat black or anywhere near that. They shine great in the light once clean.

@mike36 and mad dog
So how is the handling, running 245 with the 9.5?
Would you say this setup could work for track day use?
BTW your cars look PERFECT

I can't speak from experience but grassroots magazine did a comparison on one of their newer Miata projects, I think they went from a 17x9 with 245 or 255 to an 18x9.5 with 245/35 they reported better response in turn in, transition, slalom etc. which if I remember correctly got them a better time in the auto-x.
9.5" wheels are within spec for certain 245-35 tires albeit that's probably the limit of width, but having them at that configuration limits sidewall movement even more, which is good. Many autocrossers will say go 265 or 255... but that's probably kinda hard to fit with a street alignment and just rolled fenders.

Can someone explain to me the purpose of going for 9.5" wheels if you're not trying to fit 265s or 275s
The 9.5" ET35 wheel wasn't specifically made for the E36, but people really like the concavity, and it does work with 245's. If the wheel were produced in a high offset, then yes, you could get a 265 onto your E36 and keep the tires under the fender. We'll be producing a 10" wheel like that at some point this year, but that wheel too, will be an extreme setup, with different fitment issues of it's own. The goal of it would be to fit a 285/30/18 front and rear onto E36's and non-m E46's.

Hey Eddy,
I'm looking to purchase a set of the 18x9 Hyper Black within the next few days. By any chance do you have pics of a 255/35/18 tire mounted? Or should I call the office? Thanks
I don't have any pictures of this. It's a common E36 setup, but few E36 customers send us photos once they're mounted.
265's already fit onto the 9" wheel. Yes a 9.5" wheel would provide better sidewall support, but a minimum number of sets need to be produced to start a production run. There are more applications (E46/E90) that could use the 18x10" setup. 285's are preferred on a 10" wheel, so it would be difficult to produce a new width simply for the tall 265 tire that is already mountable.Originally Posted by xsport652

Do you think I could get by on 18x9.5s on 245/35/18s on my e36 with only rolling rears?
18x9.5 rears on our e36 m3. We will be fitting the 18x9.5's on our e30 m3 race car trying to squeeze a 255/35/18 Hoosier in the back for some needed traction (s54 swap). I'll post those pics when/if we make it work.
Looking back at it, we should have done the 18x9.5's in the front as well. There is plenty of room under there for them.
Hyboost,
Is that Hyper Silver? What size tires are you running on the back?

Yes, hyper silver. 245/35/18. Fender rolled, slightly pulled, nothing too crazy on rear camber. Absolutely zero rubbing...
If I had to do it again, I would do 18x9.5 front. We ended up doing 10mm spacers up front for the 18x8.5 to make it match the aggressiveness of the rears.
Handling is great. We are running a decent suspention from Ground Control which may be a little too much for the street, so its hard to give credit to the wheels/tires vs. the coilovers. I've thrown the car around the streets and it handles like a dream.
(This is actually my dad's car. He got tired of watching me have all the fun with my e30 m3 race car and e60 m5 street car...so he did a full restore on this and it is PERFECT. Looks absolutely brand new with every single thing replaced with brand new parts. Its good to see the old man running around in this )
Cheers, your E36 is flawless
Looks like I'll be locking down a set of 18x9.5 hypersilver
I have an alpine white 96 M3 and I think my double spoke 24 are ready to be replaced
HYBOOST, thanks for the info

We will be using one of the 18x9.5's off the e36 to test fit a 255/35/18 hoosier on the e30 m3 race car. We are running 245/40/17 hoosiers right now, and the 255 is exactly 1" wider (hoosier just added the 1" of rubber to their 245/35/18 tire). Overall diameter is expected to be the same as the 17" 40 series, so it "should" fit (fenders are already rolled/pulled). I realize 18" looks big on the e30, but tire availability is moving us in that direction. If it works, I'll place an order for a few sets with you and post pics of the final setup.
