Wondering what my 328is will run in the quarter?

I have a 98' 328is 5-speed with intake and a chip. Supposed to give around 16hp I think? I was just wondering what it would run in the quarter mile realistically. Thanks a lot-

So what would the chip and intake knock it down to?

what u also have to consider is the altitude the dragstrip you go to is at. i know the one here localy is still in high altitude so everyone runs poor 1/4 times, no matter what car they drive. so if you can get to a lower altitude and then test at a higher altitude with the same temperatures and weather conditions youll find out.

Don't worry about "supposed to". Take your car to a local drag strip and then look at the little slip of paper that they hand you at the end of the strip. The numbers on it will show you the realistic ET for YOUR car.

if you go to do the 1/4 mile...

dont do it with a full tank of gas.. take traction off... dont have your 500lb aunt or whoever in the car...

all of those will slow down your time...

Seriously.. I want to see better times from you people here... some people are posting some SLOW times... and think they are great... I know the car can do better...

I'd rather see slow, but factual times instead of make believe BS like a stock 328i auto running a 14.55 :

    As I've said before,

As far as the stock 328i auto running a 14.55@96mph, I find this VERY hard to believe. My professional drag race buddies were LOL when I told them about that story. Supposedly the guy ran 15.4 and then his car "warmed up" and started running mid-14's. Well here's some more math for you guys,

    3200lb car with 170rwhp > 15.49sec ET
    3200lb car with 205rwhp > 14.55sec ET

BMW Auto = 22% Drivetrain Loss
    For a 15.49: Flywheel HP = 170*1.22= 207.4
    For a 14.55: Flywheel HP = 205*1.22= 250.1

So basically we're to believe that BMW builds the 328i with 190hp +/-60hp! Hmmm, that would be a stock 2.8L with more hp than a stock 3.2L. Or by "warmed up" did that guy mean he figure out how to turn on his 50hp shot of nitrous?

Some 328's do.. its not impossible.. but i would expect high 14s.. mid 14s on a stock 328 is a bit...:

Totally agree. I'm sure that a 5-speed 328 with a couple simple mods should have no trouble dipping into the 14's

    1/4 Mile for 325is

A month and a half ago I ran my car at the strip. Details follow:

2nd time for me ever at strip, 1st time in Bimmer. Car is a 1993 325is with M3 body kit and 17" rims (weight), but with K&N open filter, RD chip, and UUC exhaust.

I only got 3 runs, all with what I consider shitty (bogged) launches.

My two best runs (1 best ET, one MPH) were as follows:

    R/T .941
    60' 2.246
    330 6.423
    1/8 9.973
    MPH 68.85
    1000 12.988
    1/4 15.477
    MPH 90.32

Interesting thing was that I missed the 2-3 shift and hit 5th gear, then before declutching I shifted back to 3rd and went on.

    Other run:

    R/T .796
    60' 2.353
    330 6.614
    1/8 10.081
    MPH 71.01
    1000 13.024
    1/4 15.480
    MPH 91.67

On this run, it was clean, however I extended my shift points, and bounced off the rev limiter in 1st and 2nd gears. I could feel the power roll off before I shifted.

All in all I didn't think it was too bad. I figure if I could get a good launch (shave off .3 sec on the 60') and a clean run without rev limits or bad shifts, I might just have a prayer of breaking thru 15 flat...

    These are actuals, not theory!!!

Nodded off a bit at the light on that first one I took my M3 to the local strip a few weeks ago. I made it to the forth round of eliminations and then blew it with a .995 reaction time : I cut a .552 the run before and beat the guy that eliminated my buddy in the previous round!

I wasn't lanching as hard as I should of, but I managed a 14.68@95.51 as my best run. Full tank of gas, spare tire in place, Lux interior and a RD exhaust (gonna trade up to an AA or Stromung soon). I've got a friend who may be selling me his 6-sp/3.46 setup from his M3 soon too

    Nodding off

    Caught me sleeping!!!

Seriously, I was paying little attention to the lights, and trying to get a launch. I had never launched my BMW prior to taking it to the track, so I had no idea where to start the revs at, etc.

Apparently I wasted my time, as my launches sucked anyway. I want to take the car to a test n tune this fall and see if I can do better before going any further on my supercharger "kit".

I ran with 1/3 tank of fuel, spare, and about 125lbs of audio gear in the trunk...

That'll add a good .1 to your ET, the M3 Lux interior's power seats add about the same. My stereo only added about 20-30lbs (Stealth boxes / PPI PC450), but changing to a 25lb Stromung exhaust should offeset that nicely.

There's more to the driver here than you would think. I got a 14.7 with my stock clutch with, Mozart Intake, and BMP Intake. I got a 14.5 with my Kevlar clutch, AA Gen III Exhaust and AA Intake. Reaction time and proper shifting is very very important.

stick cars are only as fast as the driver.trying to get an auto to run fast is probably harder cuz you ain't controlling much.BTW.....if anybody is from Long Island NY.......DO NOT GO TO LONG ISLAND DRAGWAY(in the hamptons)!!!!!!!that place sucks!!!i'm talking dirt and rocks in the pits, deep grooves in the waterbox, and not even a real tower!!!!!!it's like if somebody throws a cigarette in one of the lanes, they close the whole lane!!!!boycott this place as they charge $45 for test and tune.....they don't even rent helmets!!!!
this track is by far the most f-cked up track i have ever been to.it's like they spent $100 to build the whole track!!!sorry for rambling, but i gotta vent somehow.......oh yea......this track was also vandalized(2 drums of oil got kicked down the track)cuz gary(the owner)screwed some poeple out of alot of money!!!!if you got anything that goes faster than 13's,racing it at the hamptons will be a very scary experience!!!!!!(after the traps, there are divets and it's very uneven).sorry again for the rambling, but i feel much better now
