    Hello forum friends.
    I'm Govillard, from bmwfaq, Spain.

Congratulations to all those who have made progress in this area.
Three years ago, when I broke my leg in an accident, I had time to dedicate it to the becker. First with a very rudimentary program, and then with the help of a friend, we got decent software to change the logo of the Indianapolis model.
Then, the friend Revtor gave us better tools and ideas to do it. Thanks @vector!

Another thing: in that time of convalescence, I also discovered how to update the maps of the Cascade model. In case someone from here wants to do it again ... or try.

Greetings and congratulations to all for this thread.

I had not read all the thread until today....

But I just put enthusiasm on this and mange to involve a friend to achieve this. Basically I put the money for buying a lot of beckers... don't know how much right now but between 5 and 10... probably nearer to ten... Another z3 coupe owner and a friend did the weird part of opening them, soldering... basically the phisical part, and a friend of my friend which is a completely genius did the software part... So we are three involved, the brain, the hand and the silly that want to risk a lot of bucks.

I going to make a resume, but you can read all the post about the transformation, but it is in spanish... http://www.bmwfaq.com/threads/primic...lizada.879714/

first is to open the unit. then locate the chip where the logo is located.
    Attachment 572113
After this, the logo should be removed... Quite difficult part and with risk of damaging the unit... Actually we broke one unit, the chip could be replaced but the unit board is very very fragile... we did the things as right as possible so before doing this the

In the next photo you can see how big this chip is... We used hot air to remove it
    Attachment 572116

One removed, it must be soldered to an ancient socket
    Attachment 572117

Then read the eeprom and make a back up of it.
the hex code is very difficult, here the genius manage to find where was located the logo, created a program (which I am not allowed to share) that translate the code into a paint.

    Attachment 572118

at frist we used a kia unit and manage to fing the part of the kia logo, which is very small... so without knowing if it will work we "broke" an indianapolis pro to read its big logo. After a lot of work we manage to get a 188x28 paintable area...

    Attachment 572120

We draw a logo in paint, we did a lot until we decided which will be the first and final one... We knew the risk and hard work so we didnt want to brake anything or work just for testing... We draw it pixel by pixel and after that translated every pixel one by one into the hex code... We we got the code we wrote the eeprom with the new logo and then a very risky part... soldering the chip back to the board... With the heat we broke a board (goodbye 200 bucks), the hand part manage to fix it but with the heat after half an hour more os less the unit gets stuck and needs to be flashed again... but the second one with even better tools and more practicing works great.

First logo worked but need some corrections

Here is the video of the first start up, how proud I was about my friend, the hand.
    <iframe src="https://player.vimeo.com/video/157657109

After this the brain work again in the program.

After a few more tries and a few chips blown, they are cheap and if you have the back up can restore it, or if you dont you can restore it with the one of another eeprom, but the code and serial number will be the one from the code donor...

Yesssss! This was first Indianapolis modified. I did it for my wife. We still own the hyundai, and of course, the "becker tiburon" works!!

Since you seem very knowledgeable in this area, would you perhaps know if you can take a software dump from Becker model and transfer it over to a other? Specifically from BE2430/BE2420 to BE2455?

These are nearly identical, the BE2455 being the BMW specific model of the Mexico Pro. But the BMW verions has some nice functions omitted, most importantly MP3 tag display.

Good morning to everybody. I can not answer some questions that were raised in the forum "roadfly", about the changes in the display of the Becker Indianapolis.
Therefore, I am going to write here what I have found about orange lighting for our BMWs:

For the change of lighting replacing the LEDs, I found a website where they have some with the exact color of BMW. Orange, 606nm wavelength
    The website is "https://es.rs-online.com/web/home.html"

The reference of the small LEDs for the screen and front buttons are: "9154733"

Regarding the exchanges of front panels between Traffic and Indianapolis ...

I have an Indianapolis pro becker. It has brightness adjustment between values of 1 and 8.

I also have a becker traffic pro 7822. I think it's the "high speed". It has the possibility of changing color between red and yellow. As for the screen, it can be positive, negative or automatic.

The tests have been the following:

1- All the front panel of the traffic model, installed in the Indi Pro:
When the unit is turned on, there is no backlight. I look for the settings menu, and two options appear:
-Option "COL": when changing this setting from yellow to red, the backlight appears. (red only)
-Option "LCD": You can choose between positive, negative and automatic. The three options work, but inverted.

2- The entire front panel of the Indi Pro model, installed in the Traffic:
Each time the unit is turned on, the security code is requested, even if the backup cable has not been disconnected.
When the unit is turned on, there is no backlight. I look for the settings menu, and two options appear:
-Option "LUM": the value starts at 31 and when it goes down, reaching the value of 8, the backlight turns on and can be adjusted between 0 and 8.
-Option "LCD": You can choose between positive, negative and automatic. The three options work, but inverted. In addition, the screen tone in "negative" position differs slightly from the traffic model.

    Conclusions:
-They are interchangeable and work fairly well. Except for the problem of the security code in the Traffic Unit with front panel of Indianapolis.
    - Both front panels have the option to operate in negative. The front of the Indianapolis only when it is in the traffic unit. And the front of the traffic, works in negative in both cases. But installed in the Indianapolis unit, only in red.

    Questions:
-As a partner asked .... It would be nice to know that you have to modify the front panel of the Indianapolis, so that it can work in negative and / or automatic ....

Interesting. I never noticed this (I only tested this combination very briefly).

    - Both front panels have the option to operate in negative. The front of the Indianapolis only when it is in the traffic unit. And the front of the traffic, works in negative in both cases. But installed in the Indianapolis unit, only in red.
There are two problems with using the Indianapolis in negative mode:

The Indianapolis display is positive. Sure, any (graphic) LCD display can be inverted but it looks best in the mode it was designed for. In negative mode the Indianapolis display will have a very visible grid in the dark parts and the whole display is surrounded by a border that does not get inverted. A similar effect is visible when the Traffic Pro display is used in positive mode: A very visible grid appears in the light areas.

The second problem is that the backlight of the Indianapolis display was designed for positive usage only. Positive displays tend to require less backlight power. In negative mode the backlight is way too weak to illuminate the display properly. Just compare the size of the backlight LEDs of the Indianapolis and the Traffic Pro. The LEDs of the Traffic Pro are much bigger and brighter.

(Left: Indiapolis BE7969 - Right: Traffic Pro BE4769)

-As a partner asked .... It would be nice to know that you have to modify the front panel of the Indianapolis, so that it can work in negative and / or automatic ....
The front has a small 24C02 EEPROM... Maybe the Indianapolis front can be reprogrammed into a Traffic Pro front?

Update: The Traffic Pro front has a 24C02 EEPROM but the Indianapolis front has a 24C64, so it's not possible to simply swap the EEPROM contents between both fronts.

What is remarkable is that when an Indianapolis front is put on a Traffic Pro main unit it does gain the "Lcd" menu to toggle between positive and negative (and it works).

    hey guys,
A small hint from my side.

You can use Becker 4769 or 7469 together with any iBus Steering Wheel Buttons (e39 e46 x5 etc) to control volume etc with the steering wheel. Nothing special since the xx69 Models are equipped with iBus function. However it is "standalone" so you only need the steering wheel and the radio, no connection to the car needed.

The trick is now to add the hands free module (bluetooth module) from an (e39 e46 x5 etc) and to hook it up with the ibus. Wire the module connect the mic and you have bluetooth connection with your phone, voice control.
The becker showns number or name of the caller, you have access to the phone book etc.

If you need help, just contact me.

Downside is, that you cannot play music via bluetooth. And the remote kit for iPod does also not work. But aux in and cd with mp3 works, (Thats okay for me..)
