This just might be the lamest thread ever, but..... oh well.
My little E36 Flashlight does not work. I figured I'd investigate, before buying a new one.
It pops open pretty easily along the seam at the sides, a thin screw driver or butter knife should work fine. I used the fat screwdriver blade on my swiss army knife. Press into seam and twist, the case pops open. Repeat on each end of both sides. The two halves are held together by a very thin line of glue. You need a little bit of super glue to get the halves back together
It has a pretty huge battery (two actually, stacked) inside like a 5/8" tall stack of nickels. On mine, one of the soldered leads came undone from the battery terminal. So maybe the battery has not be charging. Maybe the solder broke when I popped the flashlight open. Who knows.
The battery is reading 2.45v and about 60mA. I will re-solder the connection (Hopefully the battery will not explode)
Lastly, the bulb which is replaceable has a screw base. The filament is still intact. I was wondering if a fat White LED type bulb could replace it. The bulb contains the following writing, which is hard as crap to read:
OSRAM 2.2V, 0.25A 2R6/2R10
The bulb resembles these little E10 LED's.... I don't know about the voltage stuff tho..... Anybody???

The battery is reading 2.45v and about 60mA. Maybe the bulb is dead?

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I just got a really nice '95 M3 and my flashlight doesn't work either and was trying to figure out what I should do as well. I'd love to replace it with an LED if possible (and if that's what it needs in order for it to work) but i'm not positive. I don't have a soldering iron though, so hopefully the leads don't come off.
fleshlight?
oh, wait, nevermind...
my flash light doesn't work either i think it might be the bulb!! but were do u get one!
I know its an old thread, but I have an LED bulb coming in the mail. I think it should work, I'll post how it goes.
It's been done. Google search will help you.
The problem with them is the batteries. they are nicads and pretty much die after a few years of sitting on the charger.
I was amazed by the difference made by just swapping the bulb to an LED.
I had to reverse the polarity (I flipped the battery over and reconnected everything). I used white-out to make the inside of the flashlight as reflective as possible.
Check out the difference:
Would you mind sharing what LED bulb you used and where did you get it? Thanks!

I would like to know which LED you ordered, as well.
I ordered an LED from:
http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...lashlights.htm
Item #E10-WHP ... the size matches perfectly.
You have to reverse the polarity (install your batteries upside-down) though, for an LED bulb to work.
Now THIS is a mod!!!!
Yea ! jaja
Care to sell me one?
