Indeed. The picture should be on one of those "oddly satisfying" meme pages. Haha.
Playing with some red vinyl. I love playing around sometimes.

Oh I also went in to get an alignment but I need to now order new inner and outer tie rods for both sides. And for the rear I need to order offset RTABs before I’m completely dialed in.

I starred at her and wondered 'when is stuff gonna stop breaking? ffs'
A little engine extraction.

Got most of it back together. Used the pressure tester and didn't see any leaks. Had it running to try and bleed it. The weird thing is that I put less coolant back in than I drained out and the level in the expansion tank is much higher than it should be. I have cabin heat but it was 93° out today so it was hard to tell how hot it was. Coolant temp didn't reach 90°C so I'll go for a short drive tomorrow and try to move any bubbles, there have to be some in the system. I did find a bunch of "helicopter" seeds in the bottom of the air box so something has been squatting in there.

Have had some time during quarantine to get some of the projects that have been waiting for completion. Subject is a 1997 328i with 164,XXX miles.
First up was the trunk wiring harness. I had issues with flickering trunk lights when opening and closing the lid. Found that it was a cracking ground wire. Used the kit supplied by BMW to replace the whole thing. At some point in the future I think that I would like to try to add connectors in place of the crimp-on butt splices. Just figure that if I am going to have a place of weakness in the line, might as well be a place where connections can be easily undone and checked without having to cut anything.
Next were the front wheel bearings. I thought that I was hearing some noise coming from them and figured that I would change them out since I hadn't seen any note of it being done in the past service history. It went pretty well, the only hangup was that the dust caps that were purchased were ever so slightly too small, so I had to get creative and bend them out slightly to get them to grab.
Continued on next post...
Wheels were next. I've been keeping my eye out for a nice set of DSIIs as I didn't really want to have to go through finding a wheel restorer around me. I had almost resigned to buying completely restored wheels until a came across a post on craigslist with an extremely clean set with tires at a price I couldn't resist.
Previous wheels were the stock Style 30s that were in terrible shape. Honestly, they were just a tad bit too small for the car and the DSII is one of my favorite wheel styles of this era.
Previous work completed on this vehicle that I haven't documented are the following:
Interior:
Replaced sagging/peeling glove box
New leather boot and knob for shifter
New leather boot and handle for e-brake
New leather armrest
Installed new euro 3-spoke steering wheel that had been recovered and thickened
Recovered rear parcel shelf and replaced all related plastics
Currently recovering sagging and stained headliner and replacing all associated bits and pieces to make it Anthracite.
Replaced rotted speakers with kit from Bavsound and added CD43 head unit along with Bluetooth adapter
Gutted stock BMW microphone and installed supplied microphone with Bluetooth adapter in BMW housing
Replaced blower motor resistor
Replaced driver's door lock actuator
Replaced all plastic window regulator clips
Exterior:
Replaced stock side moldings with M-style trim (prefer homogeneous trim thickness around car)
Replaced all exterior lighting with new units
Did an FX-R HID retrofit to a set of ZKW glass housings and converted existing wiring harness to Euro-style harness to keep from using a harness adapter.
Replaced all missing underbody trim pieces including damaged wheel well liners, pork chops, and AC belly pan
Installed new windshield and rear window trim
Replaced cowl trim
Removed and installed new sunroof gaskets as well as broken plastic slides
Mechanical:
Installed rebuilt VANOS
Replaced leaking valve cover gasket
New spark plugs
Replaced failed o2 sensors
Future projects:
Respray due to fading clearcoat
Replace seatbelts and buckles due to sun damage and cracking.
Re-upholster interior - considering color change. Rear seat has a split seam due to sun exposure/shrinkage.
New clutch and adding LSD
Lower on on H&R Touring Cup Kit
Considering 330i Brake Swap - Need to research more.
FOUND MORE FUC37NG ROT! Jack points suck dick.. Looks like its break out the welder.. Again... Over it..
Dropped of oversized bearings to machine shop... Pushing this engineless car up the hill of a backyard to the driveway.. My trees deposit sap and millions of random greenery that have worked its way into every crevice in the car. Stupid trees.
Replaced valve cover gasket!
Ordered new RTABs. Can’t wait. At work now...

Which RTAB's did you get? Poly's are nice because there's no preload needed. Mine are quiet as can be.
Had mine out again today, temp never went above 94°C according to my OBD Fusion app. My aftermarket temp gauge showed just below 200°F and that sender is in the coolant hose that feeds the throttle body.
