We had a bit of heavy rain yesterday, enough so where it completely obliterated my EZ up, nearly taking my car out with it. The EZ up did have one section of Scaffold (?) that came down and hit my drivers side window. Luckily didnt break it... Actually made it out of this with out a single scratch.

Clearly your e36 is complaining about its housing situation

The tint was all old and purple on mine and the wheels were bent to hell. Finally I'd had enough and decided to do something about it.

    - Retint (3m color stable) $445 USD total for removal and install
    - Wheels straightened & refinished, and two new tires $1555 USD
    - New Battery (went with autozone because it was close) + vent tube $170 USD

It is riding much smoother now thank god. More fixes in the works.

Got the rest of my replacement hoses and gaskets in. Pulled the radiator and fan out. Time to dig in.

    - Seat belt receptacle moved to trunk and wired into system. No check lights, hooray!
    - Installed '97 rear interior panels in nappa leather
    - Pulled out a bunch of junk security system wiring

Replaced number 7. Length of hose at the barb was annihilated and leaking a stream of coolant. Was constantly refilling expansion tank and losing heat however I haven't had an over heat since last year (lost serp belt on highway) Bled the system for almost an hour and had a concerning amount of air come out. The system took a solid gallon of coolant. Heat is scorching hot now. As a placebo I feel like the car runs better but I dont know if it would effect driveability

Replaced the window motor (axle) bushing.

The old one was truly fubar’d and gave the motor axle so much play, the worm gear and gear inside the gearbox were binded together. I had to remove the motor to dislodge them.

    No all working properly again.

Removed my PS pump (re-seal), res, lines and steering rack. Was waiting for rack doctor to ship my rack I ordered. Turns out they have no cores in stock (95 m3 green label) no biggie I'll go ahead and just send mine out for Rebuild and Return. The unit I pulled out is a 3.4 turn silver label from a 96-99!.... Who puts a worse rack in? Frustrating. Should have checked before ordering and waiting a week and a half.

The 96-99 is the better one. The M3 3.0 has the worst rack. It only becomes faster at the last bit of motion, just before full lock.

Changing the dreaded starter - my indy shop loaned me this e12 wrench to break the bolts loose then I cheated with a ratcheting 10 mm flat wrench to back them all the way out. Took what seems like forever ! Reassemble today . I hope to hell I never do this again . God willing it will start .
Will have to bleed the radiator since on heater hose had to come off in the process.

I like working on this car , but this really pisses me off BMW.

Would've been a lot less work to do it from underneath. I did mine from underneath with long extensions and a wobble/u-joint adapter. Took me about an hour or two.

By the way, it looks like you need a new oil filter housing gasket. Might as well do it now while everything is out of the way.

Thank you for confirming that this can be done from the underside as I have yet to see a DIY done from the underside.

That's what happened with me. Ended up doing a new temp sensor, oil pressure switch, oil filter housing gasket, pulleys, tensioners, and idlers

I've done this job on my AWD e46 from the top without removing the intake manifold. One tip if you haven't finished yet. To get the starter bolts started and spun part way in I wrapped some mono filament fishing line around the bolt and it threaded in as I pulled the line. It also helps if the bolt drops into the dark abyss beyond the firewall.

Gave away my BMWs, driving a VW and an Audi now.

I’m only at 135 k. And it looks like some things have been done before (upper water line date stamped 16) In addition to harness I’m doing dual temp, vanos line ( it sure as h looks like the line and not the ofh gasket??) sucky jet assembly, tank breather hose ...contemplating starter but gonna $$kip..and a couple of random vacc hoses and things I broke. It’s gonna be a pleasure to do cosmetic stuff one weekend instead .... I didn’t pull fuel lines like you —-just set manifold over a 2x but maybe should . Like you working a lil each day and hoping I can remember where it all went ,,,
