I'm seriously thinking about doing the same. I have replaced 4-5 sets as they tend to fall out easily. The previous pair fell out after going over some rough RR tracks. This was while I was out on a drive with friends. Replacing them is getting way too expensive and I hardly ever use them.
Did my diff fluid (55k), oil looked real clean, later looking in the drain pan revealed 1000's of fine sparkles. So I first saw how clean the oil was and thought I could have left it longer only to see all those wear particles. I wanted to tip the car to get all the oil out but I guess laziness prevented that and I only saw the sparkles at the end. I used MAG1 fluid, inexpensive product have used it before. My auto trans has 100% fill of mag1 full syn dex3. Will be doing 2x basic drain/fill on the trans soon (dex6, full syn).
Interestingly a lot of you know the difficulty of getting the diff bolts off, years back when I did the first diff service I drilled a hole in the trunk to fill the fluid more easily. Well now getting that top bolt off is a snap because I can now access it from the trunk, so glad it lined up and was big enough. When done with the hole I seal it with some rtv or caulk.
