    Unhappy

my 95 m3 overheated the other night.. to make a *very* long story short.. i decided to replace the thermostat and the water pump - thinking it must be one of the two that caused the problem..

i open up the thermostat housing.. a piece of the thermostat falls out.. the damn thing is in 3 different pieces.. all broken up.. so i replace it with the new one..

next comes the water pump.. remove the old one - the thing is cracked in several places (no pieces broken off though) and its loose on its shaft..

anyways, everything is good now.. but.. usually when i turn on my car, it takes about 4-5 minutes for it to warm up to the half way mark.. now it only takes about 1 minute.. is this normal? i'm running the 92deg (i believe) thermostat.. which is supposedly stock from what bmw told me.. any input on this? Thanks!

i would be a bit wary of this, my stock 97 328i takes lot longer than that to warm up.just as long is does'nt overheat it's fine but get it shown to a service technician for 2nd opi

This is pretty normal (mine takes a few min). What was happening before is your thermo. was wide open (broken in 3 pieces) and didn't stop the water (as a thermo will open up when at a certain temp allowing water to flow), and thus caused the car not to warm up sooner (as water was flowing). Now what you have is the thermo working properly, it warms up faster (which is what we want; a warm engine as soon as possible to reduce wear on the engine). Just watch the temp guage and make sure it is running 1/2
