    Which is the better deal?

Hi guys. I've always loved the 6 series styling but I ended up buying my e36 for a more modern look. Now, after a year of ownership, I've started looking at other BMW's. First e31s(8-series), e30s and now e24s. Sadly, I don't have the money to purchase another money pit, because we all know, BMW's are money pits, but I wanted to ask just get a general idea.
Which e24 is the better deal? Both are here in Houston.

    e39 540i 6spd m-sport - gone
    e53 x5 4.4l - gone

I would say find out the miles on each of them. I noticed that neither ad included the car's mileage. I would go for the '89 as well.

    Nice color choices...

Go for the '89. You'll get the later M30B35 too, and more power.

That '89 isn't an '89 unless it got the diving board swapped in. That said, they both look decent.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking.

You'll have to personally inspect them to discern the difference. Both are probably overpriced for the current market, and I would haggle without mercy.

It will come down to maintenance assume both are in the mid to high 100k mile range. You want to see all of the cooling system parts and hoses replaced, driveshaft, and AC conversion, every suspension component, and, gads, a bazillion other items. Check out the Buyer's Guide above. Find out which one uses the least amount of oil. Compression and leakdown checks are a good idea, too.

Yeah, the "89" doesn't look like one. Doesn't have the airbag steering wheel and the mirrors look chrome, plus the aforementioned bumpers. Also seems weird that the first letter in every word in both ads is capitalized. Is that normal?

It doesn't look like that '89 is an '89. Maybe '87 or '86 as well. Best to go look at each car. It will come down to maintenance and condition. Don't forget to take it for a nice hard ride. Unless the mileages are way off 100K vs. 200K, I think you will be able to decide once you see the cars with your own eyes. Definitely worth the gas if you are seriously looking to buy a 6er. If high miles on the car and you are still interested, don't forget to have your local BMW mechanic put it up on a lift.

For me, I even flew to another island with mechanic/enthusiast to go check a few out. Hehehe.

Yeah, they really did look exactly the same. The '86 ad was deleted by author a few moments ago.

Good call on the bumpers of the "89." '89's had world bumpers, who would swap them for older US bumpers? Haha
