    M50 non Vanos cam upgrade?

    Hello board,

a friend of mine has a M50 non vanos 2.5L stock and he wants to install my S50B30US M3 stock camshafts in their. My question is if the M3 cams will bolt on stright in the non vanos m50 and what would be the typical gains?

He has the M50 in a e21, controlled by a Haltech unit. My only concern it's the Vanos-Non vanos swapp.

Also, somone has the values of both camshafts models to compare them?

    thanks

only the exhaust cam will bolt in. you can move the nv intake cam to the exhaust and use the s50 exhaust cam for the intake.

The Non Vanos cams are pretty aggressive for a stock application.

    Thanks!

George, by doing what "mentaleeill" suggest, will hit the pistons the valves somehow? You say the NV cams are agressive, more agressive than the S50B30US cams? Or at least, by swapping the S50b30us cams over the NV cams will increase the lift, duration or overall power with the help of a standalone system such the haltech he is runing?

So, install, the NV intake cam into the exhaust and the S50 exhaust in the intake side of the M50 right?

yes, the nv cams are 240/228 and the s50 exhaust cam is 244. so by switching the cams around as stated you will wind up with a 244/240 system. just make sure to find the lobe centers, and install them correctly, as the factory cam timing tool will not work anymore. and clearance won't be an issue as long as they are timed correctly.

Bobby - are you running dual intake cams? I'd like to try it but I worry about lining them up

No because the cam ends don't line up like the factory do when you put the intake on the exhaust side.

    Good god no

yes i am. installed and timed them yesterday, and no the cam tool doesnt work. i had to find the lobe center and clock the cam accordingly. really not that hard to do.

Did you get the chance to run the motor yet? If so how does it feel over stock?

i thought that the M50 Vanos Cams were 244/244 and thats the same as the S52 Exhaust Cam, so a M50 Vanos Intake cam would work on the exhaust side and a S52 Intake cam on the intake for a set of S52 Cams, is that correct?

i know this is different, but i sstill think i is relative.

I just baught group n cams for my NV m50. Would it be beneficial to swap my stock intake cam to my exhaust side and install the group N intake cam. This would give me a 240/240 setup(i believe) Does this sound like a good ideea?

Can you run two intake cams on the NV m50? 240/240? Make good power?

Thanks, I have a s50 with a NV m50 head in my e30, is the dual intake cam the best/ most reasonable way to get the power out of the s50 bottom end?

*thread coming back to life* So would you use the cam locking tool on the intake atleast? How would you find the lobe center? Would this be a good idea for a nv m50 2.8 stroker? Would it give more low end torque or how would it affect it?

I want to do this to my '92 M50. So all I have to do is put the S50 exhaust cam in my intake side, and move my existing intake side cam to the exhaust?? Is this friendly with future turbo applications??

I just put exhaust on my can and just want more power! NEED MORE POWER!! lol
