boost surge problem

hi all and sorry if this is already on here but i cant find it
iv got a 2001 330d with a strange boost problem when i put my boot down the turbo kicks in then backs off then kicks in again it still pulls really strong,i'v cleaned the egr out and checked for leaks(not pressure test)
anyone have any idear what this could be?
i have heard about the pressure converter being clogged up could that be my problem,just want to ask befor i start pulling things apart

Check the wastegate actuator. Make sure you can smoothly move the actuator and check the solenoid leading from the pressure hose (small) to the wastegate.


Actually - is this the style that is actuated by a vacuum pump?

actuator moves by hand just checked and yeah it has a vac line from pressure converter to actuator whats next lol

Solenoid fail? Boost leak?

the power is there it just seems slugish in the low rev range apart from 1st gear that still goes well

Do you hear the turbo more than usual? You might have a boost leak that the turbo is spooling up faster to compensate for.

i can a little bit yeah ...when i cleaned the egr and maf the other day ,after i put it all back together and went to the shops the car sounded like i had a dump valve fitted (real loud one) the next day i took it all off again and refitted it all and it was back to normal well apart from the lil boost problem i have now but this little boost prob was there befor,hence the egr clean
