Sunday I got the car prepped to pull the 1.9l out but my person with the hoist went MIA so she is still in there. A few prelim pics.

that is going to be one heck of a project! I've never seen a 1.9 before, looks just powerful enough for a go cart.

Currently Bimmerless :/
2.8 single vanos or double vanos?
there's so much room in front of your motor, just cram another 1.9 in there
You do know the 328 motor is an iron block and weighs more than the Z3 2.8 aluminum block motor right? Not too much, but about 60 lbs.

Yea I know, but finding an alusil 97 Z2.8 is tough and pricey.
Got it pulled out and looked at teh rod bearings. The bearings have a few light scores but the crank looks fine. Is it possible to have crank damage and not be able to see it? Also I am trying to figure out what this metal I found in the oip pick up is from.
Check out that gap!
Got motor!!
He sold the pan last month but I happen to have a buddy who is doing an S52 e30 swap that is not needing the E36 pan. I think I got the right EWS module and key so should be plug and play dare I say it..
Still incredibly intrigued by this. Please keep posting your progress. Thanks!

def. going to be a fun project.

Damn, why not an S52 swap ?

I'm too poor. I got a stellar deal on the motor otherwise I wouldn't be swapping at all.
took the headers to the machine shop this morning. with their prompt turnaround i expect it back in 2 weeks at the soonest. but the work is great and price is fair so i will wait.

Got the motor in and mostly hooked up. Driveline and trans bolted up fine got the clutch halfway bled and most cooling lines hooked up. I bent the steering knuckle shaft putting the 24v in I got this one plug left that I don't know where it goes, it has a grn/ylw and a brn/rd... Any guesses? 2 pronger
didn't see a new tranny..so are you using the original 1.9's?...and driveline?..and diff????....should be interesting if you are...Z3 Cheers! dk '97 2.8 bg R
Before my 2.8 I'd tried and driven the 1.9 version - man I can tell you - the difference was HUGE.
Hey SWISS, that is a hilareous sig, and so true!
Good luck with your project, sounds very interesting.
Haha, I saw that too.
I like that idea. I've always wanted to do a twin engined something (CRX, Mini...?)
I did not know that.
You need a copy of the ETM for your car/donor engine's car. Everything you need to know about your car's wiring, connectors and modules is in there.
So I put the battery in the Z today and all the damn lights on the cluster came on faintly.... Key on cranked, lights on full, no fuel/fire.
