    CMP Track weekend Recap!!! VIDEO

For those of you that are impatient

    Saturday Race:

    Sunday Race: (better action)

I got the car finished Thursday at about noon. We had planned to leave around 1 pm. Around 4:30 my dad left in the big truck. I still had to go home and pack, then go back over to my dad's house and load my brothers car on the trailer. I hit the road at around 5:30.

I got to the track at around 10:30, my Dad had to convince the guy to keep the gate open an extra 30 min. We planned to put my Exhaust back on that was ripped off loading my car, but they wanted us out.

Friday Morning got to the track at 6:30 am, and it was 20 degrees out. Got my Spec Exhaust on, fixed an oil leak from my newly installed Oil pressure sensor, and tracked down a brake fluid leak. Got the car to tech with about 15 min. to spare.

Comp school went well, I had no issues with the car. It was running like a champ. Never went off, and passed my test. Piece of cake.

Saturday morning started out really cold, but warmed up quickly. The high was in the mid 60's. I went out for practice on my old RA1's, and got my first taste of what the race would be like.

Qualifying went well. I was able to convince myself that this was not just track time, but serious business. I was able to secure some open track, and put down a 1:55.9. This put me 13th out of 18 Spec E30 cars. Didn't really matter though as rookies start in the back for their first race. I qualified better than my counterpart, so I started 17th.

I won't go into details about the race, you will just have to watch it. I was able to pick off a couple guys, and finished 11th.

There was no practice Sunday, so my first session was qualifying. Again I convinced myself as hard as it was to just manage traffic and try to find open track. I was able to put down a 1:55.15 which put me 10th out of 17. This time I got to start 10th for the 45 min. Race.

The race went well, and I got my first taste of dealing with traffic in race conditions. If you only watch one video watch the Sunday race. After the caution I was 5th and was able to keep up with the leaders, then got held up by a 944, and watched the leaders gap me. Some faster guys who were under weight in qualifying finally caught me as I was reeling the leaders back in(I really have to make myself harder to pass!!!) When they got by I was back to 7th. I was able to secure one more place when one of the leaders had some car trouble putting me 6th.

All in all it was a great weekend. Can't wait till RA, which is my home track!!!!

155.15 is fast. I've probably got 50 days at CMP, call it 3000 laps, and I've only beaten that a couple dozen times. You barely know CMP and you're doing it already. That's awesome.

Fast time Greg looked like a lot of fun. I saw you post your dyno sheet on specE30 did you rebuild you engine or send it off, its making some good power.

While it is a bit of a trip from Houston. RA and Barber are in reach. Make the trip and we'll see what happens...

In the sprints, yes. But 1:51.654 & 1:52.151 were the two best times in the Enduro

The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

That looks like a blast. Have you tried putting the camera up higher? I couldn't make out the track too well. Might just be me...

Agreed, this is the first time I put the camera back in with the new cage. Definitely needs adjustment. It will be better next time!!

i think the side net obscures the vision somewhat too. not much you can do about that. maybe a wide angle lens like skeen uses? i got the chasecam will see how well that works in march.

I don't know why but I love seeing a wide angle of the track...

In car is nice and Greg looks like he had a blast but my mind processes things in a 'macro' sense...

You can then compare to the line you took and the one you are 'supposed' to take...

I dunno.. All I do know is that Greg's car is still pretty pimp and kudos for the good placement on your first weekend as it is built now!

you really need something like a traqmate to compare lines and corner speeds, braking zones etc. tough to do with just video but i do agree it helps in a macro sense.

I'm looking into something HD with a wide angle lens. I am not going to spend a lot of money on my camera setup though.

I have no idea if I can swap the lens on my current camera?

I looked at the aiptek, looks good, but some of the reviews were bad. I guess most people that are happy with a product don't write reviews just the ones that aren't. Also doesn't look like it has a tripod mount, which means it would not work to my i/o port mount.

Also do all wide angle lens give that fish eye look?

I need to read up, I know this has been covered numerous times in the track and auto x section as well as on SpecE30.
