May need a new transmission..any reputable installers in the ny area?

    Hi all,

im hoping to get some advice/suggestions where i can take my 1999 bmw 750il with the zf 5hp30 transmission.
After doing some research into intermittent issues with my transmission with 125k miles, i decided to price out a remaned unit from bmw.
So far the lowest price i came across is $5k. Can someone recommend a trusted shop in queens/long island new york that will be able to swap the units?
Im not sure if these older units need to be programmed to the ecu and rather not have a local shop mess with the sensitive and error prone engine computers these v12 have.

    Thanks for your time,
    rick

Get a second opinion from a reputable shop. Might be something easy, who knows. 125K is not much for a transmission. What makes you think it’s broken?

hi guys and thanks for the advice.
i may drop the pan and verify that the fluid is clean and not loaded with friction material etc. Does it makes sense to remove all the solenoids and clean the screens? I believe they all have o rings...should these get replaced and are they a dealer item?
I was thinking of ordering a remaned unit since they are getting harder to come by and they have the majority of the internal parts replaced.

    Thanks again for your help

NY Metro - United Transmissions in Port Chester. I've dealt with them in the past - they are good. If he is not comfortable with it, he has contacts. he is honest.
