    Smile Sub/Amp install for DSP e38 1999

I own a 1999 E38 728i in silver with DSP, after reading the threads about obtaining a sub-out, I purchased a high/low convertot and a pack of scotch-conenctors.After studying Mojo's posted photo, attached the convertor using the connectors and installed a sub/amp, sounds great, much needed improvement on stock sound.Following this I also removed the stock subs on the rear shelf, but this made little difference.
Keep up the good info on the forum.

Just DON'T install the amp power line to the CAN BUS as shown, connect it directly to the battery positive. I have tons of damage from connecting it to the CAN and you could too... Just a friendly FYI.

I didn't connect the amp power wire to the CAN bus... The 5th wire is the remote power wire, all it does is signal the amp when to switch on. Look at the picture showing the battery.

Yes. All of the equalizer and reverb settings are still adjustable.

Mojo, PM me the pics and data, I will knock together a PDF/html and host it on my site. We can see about mirroring it on e38.org too.

I made a mirror of it on my site awhile too. I suppose now that I have a 7 again I'll finally get around to working on my e38.org mirror project again lol. One of the things that annoyed me about e38.org was it's reliance on external data.. sometimes a link will lead to a dead page or a forum post /w dead pictures. I want to make a copy of e38.org but with all data archived local so it can never vanish. Guess I outta get my butt back to it, heh.

    Ok, I'm a bit illiterate.

So I have a box with two woofers, I also have a rockford fosgate amp laying around somewhere.

DO I HAVE TOOOO install ANOTHER AMP??
WTF is the factory amp for then? can't it pump enuff juice to power a box with two 12 in it? I'm confused. I just wanted to plug and go.
Are those wires you show coming out of the amp for subs or are those just general left and right channels? help. illustrate us more plz. I'm ignorant.

Nevermind, I just read somewhere else that the stupid DSP amp only has 450 watts or something. So I am going to that other amp I have. Now all I wanna know is, the wires yo ushow, are they pre-amp wires or what? help. and which hi/lo converter should I get?

So if I buy something like this - http://cgi.ebay.com/2-Channel-RCA-Hi...ht_1890wt_1036 - I can just connect the 4 wires that they used to this box? Cuz it looks like there are 4 wires to the hi lo box so I guess I just match the positive and negative for each side to match the box?

Either that or just connect the four cables to the high level inputs on your amplifier.

I don't see why you'd ever need a hi/low converter box. I've never seen a car amplifier that didn't have a built-in HPF/LPF capability. If you are just running a sub from your amp, plug that junk straight in.

ahh....maybe due to the fact e38 audio hardness doesnt come with RCA plugs..hence the hi-lo convertor....

    +1, only for the RCAs

Some amps you can hook up directly without the RCAs.

What wires would you be tapping into with the LOC, the old subwoofer ones? And are those wires the same color on a 2001 740?
