    F10, What is This? Well...

You guessed it. The new face of the 5 Series will now hold the internal unit code of 'F' as in the latest delivery of the The Flagship 7 Series, internal code 'F01'.

So that we are clear on the 'F' labeling, the new M5 will be identified to BMW and all enthusiasts as the F10. Now to the real question. What will be under the hood?

Well, The New M5, F10, is rumored to feature a new twin-turbo V10 with output close to 600hp. How about that for some horses!

Following the current schedules and recent news, it would seem that this new M5 will hit US shores in 2010 as a 2011. Of course, BMW can accelerate or push back the availability but a clear sign will be when the dealers can no longer order any new M5s for delivery. Keep your eyes and ears open.

I thought that the new M cars were suppose to go to smaller, twin-turbocharged engines (the M5 would have a twin turbo V8 with the same hp and a little more tq)?

Anyways, it's kinda sad to see the E label go...

Right now, no one person can tell you whether it will be the V10 or he V8 but all things point to more HP and Torque under the umbrella of TT.

But there will be no effing label external like a effing truck. The F is a code not a car name/label like in the F150. It will be called the M5.

bookmarked bc "f" is stupid and e stood for "entwicklung", shouldn't have been be so petty against Mercedes-Benz that you can't accept three digit classifications.

    press f to pay respects

Looks like wave seen the last of the naturally aspirated high revving engines. Damn emissions standards.

Looks like chances for a manual transmission in ANY of the models INCLUDING the M coming out in 2013 is SLIM. They are going with a 7 speed auto standard for all models and the DCT for the M. The interviewee was saying that there was a very slim chance of a manual transmission.

This is what happened last time when the e60 was coming out but I'm pretty sure enough consumer complaints and they will wilt.

an automatic in an M5? That is just WRONG! (Yes, I have an automatic 3 series , it ain't no M!). Someone please explain to them, that you need "man" to spell "manual!"

F doesn't stand for anything. It's easier to start over with model numbers than it is to go into triple-digits. (E90/92/93 3-series being the last of the "E" generation, the "F" generation starting back at 1 and moving up from there)

I don't forsee BMW giving up on driver controlled gear selection, though. At the least you'll still have paddles and the slap shifter to work with.

Automatic vs Manual is all about personal preference. I know how to do both; however I would rather drive an automatic just out of sheer laziness.

My guess is that BMW wanted to open up to the Automatic crowd as no other M5's have had that option before if I'm not mistaken.
