Hey everyone!
I am bring and old epic thread back with what is most likely an ignorant question.
I would normally be posting in the 318ti.org forum but it doesn't appear to be working for me on any of my devices.
I am doing an OBD2 m52b25 into my 97 318ti m-tech. Everything is going pretty well. I am just waiting on a clutch and flywheel coming in so I can drop the new motor into the Ti.
The motor is out of a donor 98 323 automatic that I got a killer deal on the whole car. The motor is going into my manual 97 318ti. I bought a DME with the ews deleted, SAP is also deleted so I got rid of it.
My first Question is about the reverse lights. Since the donor car and engine harness is coming from and auto and going into a manual car I wont have a reverse switch correct? Is there a way I will be able to rob the plug off the m44 harness and use it to splice into the m52 harness. If so how should I go about that? I am good with mechanical stuff but I am not very good at reading wiring diagrams.
Question number 2 is, should I use the vapor canister from the 318ti and leave it in the engine bay like it is?
Question 3, Should I use the FPR off the 323 donor car and just swap that over?
My 4th and final question for now is do I use the Throttle cable off the 318Ti or does that need to be swapped also?
Please let me know what I need to do or help me find the right place for me to find out for myself. 318ti being down is really cramping my style.
After doing some more research I think I might be up shit creek without a paddle as my 318ti does not have a x69 connector in it but the 323 engine harness does have a x69 connector in it with quite a few pins in it. Is this all the stuff for the Automatic transmission and I wont need it?
Im kinda freaking out about this. Can anyone shed some light on this for me please
The first picture is the 318ti and the second picture is the 323

Read the auto to manual swap thread. Clearly stated I used an auto drivetrain to a manual ti, yours is no different. Use everything from the donor including the fpr and Evap stuff. Park/neutral switch needs to be wired correctly.

I have been using reading through the Auto to Manual swap. I haven't seen or I did not retain what I need to do to do with the middle X69 plug. I checked the Build date on the Donor 323 and its 12/98. I just checked in a panic to see if it was an ews3IIImodel. Luckily it is not the ewsIII. It is a white EWSII so the DME I bought with the EWS delete should work. But I am not banking on it.
Thanks for the help Bluebimma. I'm glad to see such a legend still getting on the forums and helping people out still.
Can you direct me on where to look in the Auto to manual to where I can find my answers. I will try to look for myself in the mean time.

Engine swap gurus...
318i swapped with a M52B28. How do I properly wire the aux fan to retain AC? I know on the 328i the fan receives a high and low speed signal from the relay, but on a 318i it’s just from the DME (I think this is correct, but could be wrong). But how do I wire it correctly?
Anyone know if you can use the drive axles and diff from a 6 cylinder E36 with the hubs from a 4 cylinder? I searched and found conflicting information...
Yes you can but 99% chance you won’t be able to get the axles out of the hub without FUBARing the wheel bearing. Use the proper puller if you attempt. All non-M E36 rear hubs are identical.
hey just a question about the thread, i cant see the photos you uploaded, is there a plug in i need to install
cheers

I have a question about my car that is hopefully easily answered. It's an 1989 325i and I got it already swapped with M50 from a 1993 525i. It is BARed too so has all the emissions stuff wired in and functional, and it has green check engine light that flashes when tuning on car. Everything works fine but I was doing some research on the swap and came across a mention regarding a wiring harness that supports ABS and oil level sensor for light in check panel. My car has ABS system in place but it does not work, and the oil level light on my check panel is always on. Where should I start looking as far as harness is concerned to try to get these two things to work? I can solder and am decent with a meter so should be fairly easy to do. Photobucket is part of the problem as none of the pics work even if I try to click on them.

I did everything said, yet I still have no fuel or spark. It does crank, but no start. No cel, and fuel pump won’t turn over. Ews was bypassed from pin 1,3 behind the glove box. Also pin 7 on connector x20, and conector 8 was bridges over to pin 1. I bought a fuel pump but haven’t replaced due to no spark, I tried to start the car with starter fluid and it didn’t go please let me know what to do next

Reviving an old thread again!
I have a 2000 m44b19 compact and have dropped in a 1993 323i. Ews deleted and runs just fine. However no abs lights.
Looking at your description number 8 on my x20 is black and white, but the smaller plug has no wire at pin 1
Also pin 14 has a yellow and brown wire.
How do I get my abs to light up and check light?
Hey if anyone on here can help me I have a 1998 z3 with the 1.9 m44 I wanna swap in a m52 2.5 will I need to do all of this wiring if I got a ecu with ews deleted? Also if anyone can answer this please do the m44 that's in it crank but won't start I replaced the dme harness and cap and cmp but still no spark also got a ecu from Kassel performance with ews deleted and programmed to my vin I looked down in the ckp hole and see the teeth so I can't figure out why no spark even on my scanner no ckp activation only at random times
