Hello everyone,
I a newbee and have a question about a car im looking at for the wife. Its a 2001 750il black on black has all options. While talking to the guy he rumbled off something about run flat tires and protection package..
anyone have any idea what this is?
What it cost?
Does slow the car down?
How much weight it ads?
Etc etc... any info would be grate.
Thanks
Shawn
740iL and 750iL Protection Line light-armored vehicles ($99,100 and $124,400 respectively) improve security with body armoring, bullet-resistant glass and run-flat tires. I am not sure how heavy that makes the car.
There were some on e-bay that claimed to be protection models, but they were clearly not. A real protection should have windows in the back seat that do not roll down. There is another break resistant "double glazed" glass that was a $2000 or $2600 option, but that was not the same as the protection glass that is a full 3/4" thick.
See the window switch on the driver's door? No switches for the back windows.

Oh and a steel sunroof
Oh yeah, that too. Thanks! (I'd miss my glass roof too much...)

Gentlemen,
The stock 750il is 4597lbs while 750il Protection is 4905lbs, just FYI.
WHY DO YOU NEED THAT? DO YOU HAVE LOTSA ENEMIES?
no i dont have that many.... no more than the average person.
I just thought it was a black on black 01 750... then he mentioned the protection package.

In 2000 BMW OZ imported 10 L7 VIP's at US$600,000 which was 2 and half times more than a normal L7. They were used for VIP's during the olympics like the Olympic president, Chelsea Clinton and such.. it had further features of the protection plus bomb protection from underneath, seperate oxygen tank in case of a gas attack, thicker glass to withstand more potent weapons, intercom to the outside world so windows dont need to be wind down.
And a few other features obviously and they looked identical to the normal L7's..but there werent many around so good guess if u saw an L7 during the olympics it was someone important

Don't all mercedes S500 come with bullet resistant glass? The windows are super thick compared to the bimmers.

The e38's with factory protection say 7(4/5)0iLP as the model by the VIN on the door pillar.
The mercedes S500 doesn't have bullet resistant glass, it's just dual pane insulated glass. I've parted out a few w140s and can personally verify that the glass is NOT resistant to bullets ;-)
