    Sunbelt cams install question

The sunbelt cams do not come with the vanos gear(Helix) on the intake cam so I need to remove and re-use the old one from my old cam.

Does anybody know if the gear is regular or reverse thread and what the torque spec is when I re-install on the new cam.

It seems like it's going to be somewhat difficult to remove, any hints would be appreciated.

You need to reuse th gear. Put the cam in a vice and use a hex socket and pipe to remove it. It's regular threaded (lefty-loosey).

It's very tight, I broke 2 10mm craftsman 3/8" hex bits before I got it loose.

Snap On will hold up much better, done dozens of them with the same 10mm socket and breaker bars and impact guns.

Do not heat the cam up too much. If you're not sure what to do, DON'T DO IT.

Torque spec is around 40Nm (30lb-ft) then 60 degrees! Ends up around 110-120lb-ft (IIRC) when all done.

Thanks for the help, just finished the job, wasn't to bad.
I heated up the old cam just slightly and the gear came right off, installed the gear on the new cam and torqued it to 125.

I'm posting this just to back up James' comment about the torque. I was told by a reputable builder that 120-125 lb ft is around the right range, along with a dose of red Loctite.
