Looks like it works! Please update us with progress. You've had a harder uphill battle doing a full retrofit, more than a plug-n-play swap. Post a video showing the working features too.

did a quick video, i really need to remove the check module stuff from the coding, since i wont be installing it, eventual additions will be boost and afr display via the extra inputs, and whatever else i think will be useful to show.

Since I am not a programmer I gave the Open OBC to a friend that is so that he can do some mods to it. I'll post it when he is done.

Some one else has already written the code for it so it should be straight forward. The openOBC is really for someone that wants to program, although it is cool right out of the box with the extra features. I'd like to figure out how to adjust the fuel consumption to read correctly.

Weird, I thought the stock sensor was fine to use as input for the OBC?

The stock oil pressure sensor is a pressure switch whereas the one that I have ordered is a pressure switch and sensor combo. It has separate terminals for each function.

I would be interested in in an open OBC. Will it work on my e23 1984 733i?

Unfortunately, I believe this OBC is really specific to the E36 OBC.

Just a wild suggestion and not sure if I have posted this before.

It would be awesome of all the extra special cool functions could be assigned to the "secret menu" the OBC has. This now goes to Test Nr. 21 (reset).

It would be cool to have the extra options under menu #22 - #99

That way the OBC could remain totally stock for the normal button behavior and no need to double, triple quadruple press the buttons to reach new functions.

Having to remember specific numbers for every function is really a horrible user interface. The way it is heading now is a very good one.

Currently the writer of the datalog software Test-O is expanding functionality to monitor other values, starting with engine oil temperature of the S50B32 trough its MSS50

Obviously we are very happy with his help.

Well I'm sure there won't be 23-99 features or at least not that you use.

If only it can display oil temp and pressure in one screen, that alone will make me buy one. Everything else is nice/bonus.

(And displaying ibus messages would be great as well)

Nice! That's awesome. Now the question for us metrics...does the km/mls button switch it to Bar?

Dunno, didn't write that code to my openobc yet. Probably yes, as Benemorius is awesome, or he probably will soon enough.

Who talks about oil pressure in Bar!?!

    Just bugging'.

For those that are going to order a VDO oil pressure sender, don't order from eGauges.com. I ordered from them and never received the sender and he is unwilling to fix the issue. I let it go too long to file a Paypal dispute. Be forewarned.

Should not be needed as Daan is reading straight from the MSS50. Or how is this simulated?

This is not correct, there is no oil pressure sensor installed in our cars, just an oil pressure switch. This means we need to install one that has both functions. Benemorius found out which VDO sensor is suitable for that, see his site (its under the blog).
Because of this, the oil pressure cannot be fetched from the DME. Oil temperature however can, without any sensors, as the oil level sensor in the sump doubles as a temperature sensor. This information is available over digital line communication, just like INPA/DIS can access. Other e36's should probably have this functionality as well.

The OpenOBC can only be installed in the 16 button BMW e36 OBC ...
You know it's the 18 button OBC. (Or to be perfectly correct: 18 button MID)
