Hi dwvcfii,
I haven't bought an OpenOBC board yet, mostly due to undocumented comparison to the original OBC functionality. I wish the developer would show some videos, and / or get an external reviewer to compare it to the original OBC. I know they've done a ton of work, and maybe they're just ready to put a fork in it and call it done. Maybe we need someone else to pick up the reigns and review it thoroughly.
I can't comment on any of the source code questions, but I can say that the backlighting of all instrumentation lighting responded to feedback from a photo cell in the instrument cluster, I believe in the tachometer or speedometer, in the lower right. All except the original radio, which had its own independent photo cell.

Not as far as I am aware MP - unless someone chimes in to the contrary. It is a real shame because the project is so nearly there.
I am itching to have a go at modifying the code but there is no newbie guide as to where to start so I am not happy to mess about blindly.
You have one right? Any install pics or what you have done so far?
If I only have oil temp/pressure is good enough for me, since I have the SMG display.

Welcome aboard Paul!
Hopefully your brain is better than mine in regard to coding any extras. Keep us posted how you get along please buddy.
Cheers, Mark
Ok guys, I just bought one. I have a buddy that is a programmer and is excited about the project so we will see what he can come up with once I get the board. Hopefully I can learn a bit along the way.

Number one thing would be a tutorial, or good documentation to get the rest of us on board.
1995 OBD I Cosmos Black M3 - RIP: gone but not forgotten
I'm a developer and reviewed the source to this project recently. For what it's worth I found it well written though lacking sufficient comments. It's not so much the "what" I typically need to learn and adapt code quickly but the "why". Functionally the only thing I saw lacking (what I would require before I deployed it in my vehicle) is support for 12 hour time and control of the AM/PM indicators, and possibly the check control arrows.
I think the real triumph is the MCU he selected. It's quite powerful and as evident by his implementation can be fully decoupled from the mbed environment which I find too annoying. Make no mistake -- benemorius has done an incredible amount of quality work here and we should all support him by buying the board. In fact, I'm planning to do so despite the fact that I'm too busy to get involved with it at the moment.
As soon as someone succesfully hooks up an oil temp to this board, consider me in.

I just got mine. It looks awesome! Now I need info on how to hook it up and start programming this thing. The Wiki page does not work BTW.

I have a few questions.
What size micro SD card works with the Open OBC?
What is the function of the SD card at this point in development?
Once the board is installed in the OBC how to I interface it to a computer to change the coding? Is it done via the SD card?
The Open OBC has an accelerometer, correct? Is the code written to read G's and how it that accessed? I did not see the data on the video posted as the various buttons were pressed.

So, I got my first board wired up and have successfully flashed the O/S with new code with a minor tweak and was successful. There are some area's that require cleanup with respect to the UI, so will likely do that because I think from a User Interface perspective, it can't be cleaned up in terms of language, and other details.
Will also see if I can re-introduce the AM/PM mode via configuration option in the SD card? But that is on the back-burner for now.

I got my OpenOBC board installed and working, I had to do the 18-button conversion wiring first. I'm totally happy with the board, great job!
It is working except that the coolant temp is stuck at absolute zero. What do I need to do to fix this? My firmware is v2.0.
How is the 0-100 km/h timer triggered?
What does the ZKE IV Control Module wire to the OBC do?
On the voltage page the first voltage is battery voltage, what are the other two voltages?
I had two issues with the board last night, it said 'Watch Dog' and press set to reset a bunch of times and the OBC was at full brightness regardless of dimmer position. Any thoughts on those?

Try asking your question over on the developer's forum:

I had just cut and pasted my questions over there

Have you guys been able to display oil pressure, oil temp, air intake temp and possible boost? I have Zetronix dataloger and I was considering installing a display but if this works I rather have the stock look. My car is an OBDI and I woud be using the input signals from the zetronix units.
Chikinhed is this working out for you?
Old set up: 520RWHP & 500RWTQ @ 20PSI 1/4 mile as of 7/26/15 12.5 @ 125MPH - 19PSI
New set up: Steedspeed Twinscroll, Wiseco Pistons 8.8:1 CR, K1 Rods, Blueprinted and Balanced, ARP Main Studs, o-ring block, GTR 12mm head studs, GT35R with 86mm HTA billet compressor wheel (GT3586RHTA) TwinScrol 1.06 exhaust housing, Nick G custom tuning, 6 Speed Transmission, UUC Twin Disc Clutch, UUC EVO III, UUC DSSR 109mm, EVO 6 Speed Driveshaft, HFS-6 W/M injection, Zeitronix data logger, 3" SS full exhaust, Rallyroad strut bar, X brace, Race coilovers.
It's been working for me but there is a wire for the check control module that I have yet to hook up that I believe is giving me an issue. I have also ordered an oil pressure sensor to replace the stock one that can be used with the openOBC to read oil pressure (or any other pressure). Some one else has already written the code for it so it should be straight forward. The openOBC is really for someone that wants to program, although it is cool right out of the box with the extra features. I'd like to figure out how to adjust the fuel consumption to read correctly.

I'm gonna have to get another one of these at some point, and I'll upload my full flash which will take some of the programming out of it

finally got around to installing mine, had to retrofit the obc to begin with, then installed the board.
i cut the back of the obc housing for easier access to both usb ports(ones a bit big :p), then on/auto switch, 12v socket and sd card, less chance of breaking the tabs.
and i couldnt help myself on the way home(need to replace a globe, going to do all 4)
