Am considering converting to hydraulic brake booster replacing the vac unit. need the space for somethng else.
Is this a good or bad thing?
opinions welcome
I Like the system in my 81 euro. Check your loacal hot rod store as those guys use them and there are a bunch of different sizes available
I like 'em but they're a compromise just like anything else. You know your power steering system relies on the same hydraulic ("hyrdoboost") system, right? So you'll have to figure out a way to address that as well assuming you want power steering (I'm guessing yes since our cars are heavy luxo-barges).
I converted an e12 528i over to motronic back in the early 90's and switched to the hydro boost system. The conversion went very well.
The power steering is part of the system and if all parts are collected, it is not a problem.
I just sold a set of all the components off an e28 to someone that was planning to do the same conversion. Lines, power steering pump, booster, regulator and master cylinder.
So are there any negatives from a maintenance/performance standpoint?
Thanks!!
