Sorry, but it is.

It is very very subtle like I said, but I remember seeing pics of it back in the day when it was getting worked on. The whole rear quarter panel was reworked to get them to fit

Wheel men..would I be able to fit 17x9 up front and 17x9.5 in the rear. +35mm offset all around?
I have a set of 235/40/17s and 245/40/17s from my previous wheels that I wanted to put on them. Slight stretch..

I always loved Keda's car. I don't think he posts anymore unfortunately.
I'd be skeptical of that working, since the wheels you want to fit poke 12.7mms more than the standard 17x8.5 et13, which is common "stretch and poke" fitment on an e36.
Should fit, however, you are better off choosing 215 or 225s for the front, or you'll have to run some more camber if you do not want to work on the fender.
The rear won't be a problem, I run 9.5x17 ET35 myself on stock fenders - although I have 225/35 on them, which I would also recommend since it allows you more clearance without modifying your fenders. I suspect you'd have some clearance issues with the 245s.
And on another matter: What is the widest possible wheel you can run on stock non-rolled fender without rubbing?
I have personally seen 17x10 on stock fenders in the rear without rubbing, but I suspect 10.5 or 11 should be possible too, depending on offset and tire - right?
17x9.5 et13 would sit almost exactly where 17x10 +20s do. It can easily be done but a 215 tire would be ideal.
The fronts however would poke far past a stock fender.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
edit: It would look like my set up except with an extra quarter inch of poke up front:

I don't think so, I did the math, I think et35 would fit out back. My 10.5 et35 RSs fit out back (not driven yet though).
Yeah. The rear would be easy. The front will poke a lot. LIke I said, iffy. It could work if you're dedicated, slam your car, and really do the euro thing... but you'd have to space the back out, chances are.
Not the widest, but o well. Test fitment on winter suspension.
