What tuning options are there to re-optimize the fuelling and timing for headwork and cams?
AEM F/IC?
Other piggybacks?
DIY DME tuning? (I have experience dyno tuning programmable ECUs).
Dyno/DME tuning by a local tuner in the Nor Cal area?
(No I don't want a TEC3).

have you talked to TRM???
what mods do you have that you need this "special" setup for?

More than a few can tune OBD1, but only a few can tune OBD2. Not sure which you have. One thing to consider with stand alones is inspectability. That depends on the state you live in. AA has tunes for many different combinations of mods for OBD1 and II cars. PM its forum sponsor, marco, marc1119 here on the forums. If you are OBD1, consider TRM. Piggyback might be an option, but I have read very, very little of their use on E36M3 and suspect there is a reason, but if you can pioneer something affordable, you may open up a window for many people to come.

I have a standard Dinan s/c setup on a 97 (OBDII).
I then added headwork (Rebello) and cams (Elgin). It gained a lot at the mid and topend, however the plugs tell me the car is pinging a little bit. Probably needs more fuel and less timing.
I really doubt an off-the-shelf tune is right. The car should be custom tuned.

Maybe Evosport in CA does OBD2 tuning? They may alternatively be able to help with AEM piggyback or standalone.
AA might work with you. They have tuned many cars and have quite a library. Some of us have Shricks, Vortech S and T Trims running 13 psi, water injection, headers, track pipes, etc and AA has provided tunes that work. I recommend contacting Marco, who can speak directly to AA's tuner, Karl.
I doubt you would want to pay to fly NickG or Jim Conforti out to tune your car. I doubt you would end up spending much less than $5k.
