Can anyone recommend a good place to go for an easy track day close to the Bay Area? Is Laguna Seca an option? Thanks.
What are you thinking about when you say "easy" track day?
Thunderhill is probably the best first timer's track out here. Laguna days are typically going to be more expensive.
T-Hill
You should get out there before summer comes around. Limp mode = buzzkill.

I just meant one that would let you run a street car w/o any mods and without charging $500
If your new to tracking you may want to consider a group that has good instructors like BMW CCA, little more expensive but well worth the money (accept they don't cater lunch even though you pay a bunch ).

Yeah, that's fine. Most any group you run with will allow whatever car onto the track as long as it is track worthy in terms of maintenance. There is a checklist for some clubs that is mandatory (you need to get it signed off by a shop), and other clubs have a self-checklist. You can run any car you want as long as you pass that checklist of safety checks; no leaking fluids, tires with good tread, etc. I've seen everything from Ford Contour's to stock Camry's to stock Accord's.
All of the above-mentioned groups are great, check them out. BMWCCA offers fantastic instruction that is hard to rival (mandatory instructor all day). Another personal favorite of mine to check out would be Hooked On Driving; www.HookedOnDriving.com. Mr. David Ray runs a very classy organization there where you won't find any Mickey Mouse BS going on, I have never had a bad experience with them; they are a bit more expensive but you get a much better lunch at the clubhouse also.

Thunderhill in Willows, CA is definitely oriented for first timers.
