Another chip thread.. M60 content inside

I'm thinking of getting an EAT chip for my 540i. I'd like for other 540i owners to post their impressions with this chip or any other chip they have had experience with. Dyno results if you did and real world seat of your pants stuff. Thanks.

I liked mine. I didn't notice a ton of difference when switching, but I switched right after getting it out of storage so comparisons are null.

    Plus it was an auto.

Yeah I'm in an auto and I'd really hate if I could only notice a slight difference.

How does it feel in regular mode and what are some of the changes introduced to the sport mode.

I know I don't have an M60, but the chip did make a noticeable difference with my heavy automatic wagon. So, a difference that you'll notice on you're 4.0 is a given.

I'm in the market for a chip for my 540i and i'm leaning toward TMS. I've done a bit of research and i only heard great things about them.

See thats just it; the gains for the smaller engines seem to be almost double that of the larger ones.

It's coming down to them and EAT. What made you swing that way?

Probably availability. Sometimes Mark is a little tough to get ahold of.

Oh jeez If I go with the EAT that might come back to bite me. I called him for the first time the other day to get turn-a-round time. He picked right up. He even offered to caller the supplier to see if they could ship outside of there normal shipping days if i was ready to buy. (told him I was trying to get it for christmas).

I could be wrong, but I think TMS chips are EAT chips sold by Turner. Either way, can't go wrong.

Don't forget Dinan unless you know something I don't

Dinan are the more conservative of the 3, because they are designed not to void the factory warranty.

    Or so I've heard.

Jim Conforti tunes the TMS chips, and Mark D'Sylvia tunes the EAT chips...

I also heard Dinan chips are very conservative...

Has anyone ever switched from a Dinan chip to a TMS or EAT chip? *cough jesse cough*

As soon as you bring the modes into it, the impression you will get will be filtered by the trans computer, not so much the engine chip. That said, a Dinan trans chip (the only kind) is an excellent mod for the auto box. I would almost suggest it before the engine chip. It isn't like there are alternate engine maps for normal and sport mode, it is all in the transmission behaviour. Therefore, changing this behaviour will give you the full benefit of the engine chip.

I've had a Conforti tune for years, it has been great so far.

You notice a difference on the bottom end torque, as you know these are heavy cars and your take off is slow. Then around 3000 rpms and up the car just continue to pull strong, all of this in normal mode:

before i sold my dinan trans chip i had both dinan engine and tranny chip. I have an EAT chip now and the only difference in the two is where the peak power is delivered, Dinan mapped theres to give all the power up high and EAT tuned theres to give it in the low-mid range. basically same gains in two different areas. basically in short. if you want 0-60 get EAT and if you want 60-100 get dinan.

my 2 cents. You aren't going to feel a difference on an engine chip with m60 cars. Benefits are a raised rev limit (7k) and top speed limiter removed. I have a conforti chip and dyno'd before and after and there was no difference. Running the quarter mile there was a .4 second difference because I was able to trap 102 in 3rd gear at 7k rpm's. I have also driven an automatic 540 with the dinan tranny chip and that is definitely a worthwhile upgrade.

Would the tranny chip kill your autobox any faster? Not that it would be a bad thing .
