Drove the car around and noticed as I continued to drive it there was a loud ticking sound and when I continued to drive, the ticking became louder and louder. Finally the engine shut off and died. What could be the cause of this? Only code is P0102 and I just replaced the MAF sensor. This car has been doing been a money pit.
Reset codes. Still engine ticking sound then it shuts off.

The tick did match rpm initially. Started out barley noticeable but at idle it was not too loud but as I continued to drive I couldn't hear it as much, but the constant stopping and going made the sound more noticeable. Didn't notice metal on metal. The engine just died when the sound got too loud. Front of the car but not sure on what part of the engine.
Low pitch
Almost more of a rattling noise too that when you continue to drive more the noise gets more and more pronounced then the engine finally shuts off.
Is this the part that ticking is coming from? You can put your fingers on it and feel it...
I think that's related to Secondary Air system.

I'm not sure I'm going to go fire it up again and see what is up. What would this have to do with the engine dying though.
From engine bay or from under the car? My purge is noisier in the winter but should not shut off the car. My cats knocked and rattled when they went bad. Worse as they heated up.
Would shattered guides make the engine die though?
May be nothing. I know I hear that ticking go on and off all the time, so I thought that might explain the ticking as normal and allow you to focus on the problem. Is your new MAF made by BOSCH? I don't have 1st hand experience, but read that aftermarket MAFs are known to cause problems. Just taking stabs in the dark here...
Yeah it is the VW one. I reset the codes and drove awhile so there might not be any codes now.
Front of car and almost a rattling sound may be guides. Usually they don't make the car quit though. Secondary air pump? The MAF may be a warning that's it's an airflow problem.

A video would be of huge help

RIP Blitzkrieg
I'll show a video later when I get back to it.
I don't suppose oil starvation is a possibility, is it?
This was my thought. I've been in a couple of cars now that presented with identical problems, all due to oil starvation. One was my own Jeep in fact, the original engine became so clogged full of chunky oil deposits (hard as a rock) that on the motorway it started ticking louder and louder until the motor eventually just died. Needed a new motor after that, it was unsalvageable. The other times I heard it, the cars were just severely low on oil and they were easily sorted.
Well I do have an oil leak. But I checked it right after and it said it was still full.
At this point I would drop the oil pan to check for rail debris or pump bolts. For peace of mind if nothing else.
When I let mine sit for awhile.i get a ticking sound. Seems the lifters bleed down.if I let the car warm up then hold throttle up to around 3000rpms it goes away. Runs real smooth and quiet after that.
Disposable cars suck!
Point is the engine shuts off.
Started fine today loud ticking sound but died off within 30 seconds. Noise is only audible at low rpms just going to park it at my Indy shop so they can diagnose it completely and not risk getting stranded anymore.
