    BimmerWorld - E46 M3 Street/Track Car Build

Quick note. We are building this car for the Grassroots Motorsports Ultimate Track Car Challenge immediately, then for future use as a Street/Track DE car.

Most of the photos and notes are on our new Project Pages. Also running a build thread next door.

    Enjoy!

Hard hit! Looks like Mid Ohio, hope the driver was OK!

James, can we assume that you will be driving the car at the UTCC?

Car is mostly done, working on smaller items. Just got back from the NJMP CTC race, so I am buried. The fastest way to get the updates is via our Project Pages or the full thread next door

Here is a more recent photo.

Go for the 280's all around...really not that hard to fit with stock bodywork.

Steve I think this is a drive to the track deal, not an engineering thesis, cloaked in BMW sheetmetal.
Garage sale coming soon, watch this space.

Additionally, the "right" wheel for a 280 is wider than you think, "not much work" is a relative term and we are doing the project in a way that anyone can duplicate it in their garage with good results. And in a timely manner...

Depends on the tire though, 10-10.5" should suffice.

In Streetable trim you probably won't have the car in extra low ride height mode, or will you?

Fender roller and some muscle fit 18x10's with 280 slicks without too much trouble...but if you have less aggressive alignment to be able to drive on the street, it might have issues.

I forgot this was going to be on the street.

    James,

Why did you choose Alpha N and not use the MAF? Just trying to understand, I have no done much research on either.

When you do a proper write up could you include the dyno pic in a larger size, please?

Packaging. I like the internal filter better than a cone filter on the outside of the carbon plenum. We have done the other route and the results are equal, but I like it Alpha-N. Also, the software is a tick more robust - minimizes potential issues.

Our web guy is adding functionality to our Project Pages so you can blow that picture up. For now, here is the dyno output.

More updates on our website by the end of the working weekend...

James, is the scaling set differently for HP and torque on that plot? Just wondering caus the curves intersect at 6500RPMs rather than 5250...

    I want a E46, or at least an S54.

You're a smart fellow typically. See those numbers on the right and left sides of the graph? Right next to the axis labels (Power on the left, Torque on the right). Now pick a number, put your finger on the gridline, follow it across to the other side, and compare the number...

NM. I get it. The scales on both sides are different which makes the graph look nicer, but the lines are drawn different

    Ignore my email.
