I JUST used this old post to get all of the codes today when testing my e32. Very helpful.
I recorded this DIY to demonstrate the stomp test, which I totally forgot existed until I bought this e32:

I would be very, very careful with such wire bridges, in worst case you can destroy your expensive DME with such bridging of pins when you by mistake touch the wrong one.
Safest and easiest is you get a used Peake fault code reader, that is very handy, you stick it into the 20-pin diagnostic port, select the code reading function, then it checks and you get codes which you then find explained in the Peake user manual.

Shogun.. I don't know what this forum would be without you. I have taken your advice, and booked a time at a shop that have the required diagnostics tools.
By the way, I still haven't recieved the sun blind handles I ordered from you. Will let you know when they come in!
Thanks again.
good idea to visit a shop, the stomp test is anyway very limited, the pro tools of the shops can go much deeper into the systems and can get more detailed info. Sun blind handles were shipped from Japan to Denmark 26.10., nowadays it takes a very long time with shipping and to many countries the post office even does not accept any mail. Much less flights, just be patient.

how to check for code 1234 Vehicle Speed Sensor (Speedometer A Signal) ?
Last edited by Annddrriy; 09-27-2023 at 09:27 AM.
1234 Vehicle Speed Sensor (Speedometer A Signal): This code is stored when no plausible speed signal is detected while driving. The requirements are an engine speed >2500 rpm and under load for more than 10 seconds. Check the speedometer function and the wire to the DME. Is the speedometer working normal? If not, the sensor on the diff http://www.bmwe34.net/E34main/Mainte...eed_sensor.htm clean it, check for oxidation, check the wires on the rear of the diff.
If your speedometer still operates normally, nothing is wrong with it.

Just adding to the stomp test topic on the previous page. ECE 11/88 730i with the original Motronic 1.3 (matching vin) works perfectly fine with the original grey and blue gen 3 cluster.
there a list of the diagnostic codes that can be read from the OBC test number 15 or 16 I don’t remember what test number on my E32 1990 has more deep diagnostic information about EEPROM
The codes are:
C1
52
C3
04
C5
C6
E7
70
and one of the functions written EEPROM
07

What does 16 PORT values inputs & output mean ? And test 17 on display what does 00.64PROM mean ?
Last edited by Annddrriy; 09-27-2023 at 10:05 AM. Reason: Test 16
Functions 15 16 and 17
Especially the functions 15 16 and 17 are a bit cloudy at the moment. If enough people are interested. He can try to setup a small database with values related to things like: production date OBC type E32 Engine type transmission type Left/Right hand drive Stretched version seat heaters front/back available alarm Compartment heaters time switched by the OBC luxury package BMW software upgrade ?
That cloudy feature it’s interesting not only for me here on this forum thousands of fans would like to know what it is ? Give us a gift and thousands will be grateful to you !
The test 20 is important to dial correct numbers for fuel efficiency. One time I did dial by mistake 0001 and the engine was stop running and transmission failed. On dashboard was transmission program. Then I reset the battery and all returned to function normally.
no, test 20 will not stop the engine or adjust the fuel consumption, it is only for: Fuel consumption correction = that means the info on the OBC about fuel consumption can be corrected but not the real engine fuel consumption.
also in the document from Timm is mentioned: 0 1000 CORR Setting Correction Factor for OBC Fuel Consumption *2 1000/100/10/1 to change, S/R to save. NOTE: On my 730i V8 this is set to 1000 which is the default setting
15, 16 and 17 are also explained here https://www.meeknet.co.uk/E32/E32_OBC_Unlock.htm

The vehicles not safe to drive if computer is unlocked ? When testing sequence is completed the computer has to be relocked then you good to go.
What does test 15 fault memory for M.F.G purposes mean ?
that is for Manufacturing = M.F.G Purposes of the OBC, see for example page 11, 14 http://www.e38.org/e32/BMW_pdfs/OBC_info.pdf
That are internal BMW/Manufacturer Info, but no effect for you as driver.
14 Software date
15 DIAG values (Fault memory)
16 PORT values (inputs & outputs)
17 PROM values (all data for OBC)
18 "Code" alarm horn beeping or continuous tone
"The vehicles not safe to drive if computer is unlocked ? ">>>> safe, my one is always unlocked
