After talking to parts specialist at pelican turns out i had the wrong belt. Got the right one installed in about 10 minutes. Problem solved. Enter new problem: Loosened bolt on tensioner to set tension. Rotated crank 2 times. Now TDC marks do not align. Looks like the spring never recoiled after i loosened bolt on tensioner. Did i bend valves here???Some say no because i turned by hand. How do I proceed? Thanks in advance for any advice
Both Crank and cam markings are off. Cam is off by considerably more than a tooth. Not sure why or how to proceed.
the only thing you can do is line it up and try re-install the belt. pull the plugs and use a straw or something similar to make sure #1 is at tdc, then set your cam gear at the mark.
you might get away with it or you might be pulling and rebuilding the head. if it's damaged it's already done.
edit : if it runs poorly do a compression check and leakdown.
Thanks for the advice. Much appreciated.
no worries. with a hand crank only there's a chance it will be ok.
valves may have kissed a couple pistons, but hopefully without enough force to cause major damage.
when doing a belt you want everything lined up at tdc and left there when removing the old belt, and replacing it with new. when rebuilding the head you want both head and bottom set to tdc before mating the two back together and torquing the head.
if the two are out far enough the valves mash the pistons no matter what you do.
edit : it will be the valve stems and faces that take the worst if anything has occurred. you could use a scope and check the cylinders, but i don't think much will show up on a hand crank. a compression test and leak down will be more informative.

i just put a little of the belt on each part and slide it on a little at a time at each gear. if you try to put the whole belt on anywhere, it won't go on the last part
