I wanted to get your guys thoughts on a swap. My car has 202K on the engine. I was thinking of going with a 328 engine and adding a turbo. With the 328 engine out I would go over it and install some ARP head bolts, different head gasket to lower compression, and other items. But not a full rebuild with forged internals. I dont plan on running more the 6 to 8 psi max. Do i have to change anything from stock to put in a 328 engine?
I was considering getting rid of the car since its at 200K, but the car has not given me a any major problems. The only thing in 3 years that left me stranded was a shot throw out bearing. The car runs great, shifts fine, and everything works. So I thought, why get rid of a perfectly good running car, just give it a little BOOST.
I know turbos and feel comfortable turbo'n this car. Thoughts?

No need to lower compression if you plan to run less than 10 psi. You're just shooting yourself in the foot. Same goes for studs as well, no need for them. And M52 FTW!!!
What Ken said. Might need a zf gearbox too tho.
What's wrong with the engine you have?
Nothing wrong with the engine I have, just is starting to get up there with miles. I figured I would put in a lower mileage engine with boost, instead of boosting a tiring engine. But I could boost this and tune on it, then if and when it goes I could do a swap. Or a complete rebuild, build for higher boost levels. Just wanted to get everyones thoughts.
Seems like i should just boost the engine that is in there now.

yeah, no sense pullin it if its running well. good luck

Do thorough check and boost what you've got. If it blows up, you won't be in a diferrent situation, except you will have more of an idea of what you want from a boosted engine. Only loss is installing the hardware twice. I don't think that is a big deal, especially when you are doing a swap the second time around.
it's almost always cheaper to sell and buy something better than what you propose.
Very good point!
Buy this car today! http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1100617
If you get $5500 for your car, you will have a $9000 monster turbo m3 that is beautiful.
i did the swap, its fairly simple, did arp studs and mlsHG, did cleaned the head and seals chnged,
My quession about theme, but swap is in opposite direction:
Do I can change m50b28 alluminium block to m50b25 without vanos from 1992 and do I can to put internals and head with vanos in the nonvanos block?
Thanks for help!
