    Transmission Fluid Change E46 328Ci : A5S360R

** Update ** currently have 325,000 miles on original transmisison

    Sup fellas,
I'm doing a transmission fluid change soon.
    My Car: 2000 328Ci 9/99 production date
    Transmission: A5S360R
    Recommended Fluid: Texaco ETL 8072B
    (BMW p/n 83 22 0 024 359)

I'm quite certain its ok to change the tranny oil to dexron III or even Dexron V. I feel that BMW has made a killing with their "special" fluids. I have done my research and found that people changing their transmission fluids, regardless of the mileage, are okay for the next thousands of miles with off the shelf oil. Just making sure they change it every now and then.

    Questions I have are:
Where can I get the filter/gasket/bolts as a kit? Pelicanparts is great on pricing, but in Cali. I live on East Coast, all you west-side homies are lucky, you have pelicanparts and a bunch of others not to mention...I'm stuck with bavauto in NH, although i hear really good things about them. They match prices...? (-_-)
And how do I know which filter is right for my car? FEBI, ELRING KLINGER, Meistersatz, or Genuine BMW.

    Thanks in advance

Ok so I did my tranny flush and I'm very pleased with the results. Shifts like butter.

I used Castrol ATF Import something another, with a new filter from Tischer BMW. I will post more results with more miles.

Currently at 243,000. Absolutely no issues with the transmission. Shifts great.

I will be changing the tranny fluid again with Castrol Import oil, coming up on the 60,000 miles with the last change.

Very nice. Is this the original tranny and was the 180k its first change? I'm fixing to do mine soon and it has 115K.

    Ya bro, original tranny.

It's recommend to change every 80,000 ~ 100,000 miles "Lifetime oil" bs. I went a little overboard, the first time i changed it was about 110,000 miles. Make sure you buy a new gasket with filter and clean your pan's magnets.

I will keep you guys updated in the near future.

I was considering getting the auto trans fluid changed for my next service (@ 77k now), but was a little put off by some reports that its bad for the trans. You report may have changed my mind.
    Keep up the good work.
