my 2005 panisonic radio will cut on and off repeatively and im getting angry. I checked all of my connections and they are all good. I have a weird thing spliced into my power wire. I think it is the problem. do I need it? Ill post a picture soon.
here are the pictures. that one wire look like it is extra do I need it? I bought this car with the radio already in it, and it worked for a long time, but the it started cutting on and off by itself.
The first picture you show is not a necessary part if you are using an aftermarket radio. That transformer in the second pic looks like the power transformer that is part of the radio wiring. That should be in an enclosed box and if it touches ground it will short and cause the problems you are having.
Overall, that install looks terrible. I would take it out and start over.
Definitely start over from scratch. That is a rat's nest behind that head unit. A quick wiring fix may solve your issue.
I have moved a Panasonic CQ7413U from a 95 M3 to a 99 M3 to an 89 325i to an 86 535i... Love it!

ok, well. that thing was in a box but I took it out because i thought it was the problem. I put it back in the box after the pictures. Im going to try to tape up that random wire that I dont need and see if it solves my problem.
Is this radio hard wired? Is the factory BMW radio plug still there?

Can you snap a more clean picture of the wiring that was done? It looks like a mess from the original photos.
As you said. Any exposed wires definitely make sure they are covered(something better than electrical tape.
