    Weird ticking noise from my Engine for about 20 minutes then stopped...WEIRD

    So I started my car Tick Tick Tick Tick louder then the engine it was very odd and it was doing it for about 20 minutes then just quit completely it has done this about 4 or 5 times over the past 6 months and I have no idea what it is, cars driving great atm. When i speed up the ticks speed up if that helps wish i had a recording of it but I didnt have anything at the time. Ticks every quarter to half a second at idle.

    im going to guess lifter noise? I've recently gotten this ticking too Try using a thicker oil next oil change, search around for ticking noise. theres a lot out there on it already.

    could it be the vano's marbles in a can sound, or maybe its the lifter's as others have stated. Which wt oil are you using?

    make sure the oil is up to the dot on the dipstick. I put in a little more, so I don't tick at the track/autox.

    Most likely it is the Lifters...it's common for m3 to have ticking noise coming from the lifter upon start up. So long as the noise doesn't continue while you are driving there really shouldn't be anything to worry about. I have the same issue you have, but mine constantly ticks...hence why I am pulling the engine today and doing a complete rebuild.

    that is probably the oil dripping into the oil pan, no big deal and normal.

    If my S50 is even a little bit low and I have been driving like I stole it. I get a lifter tick. I add the extra oil and give it some time and I am good to go.

    Yeah Im an idiot I just needed to add a little oil. Hadnt checked the oil for 2000 miles duh...Poor old M
