Stock M52 injectors : how many pounds?

While I'm at it, I'm thinking about upgrading my injectors...

What's the rating for M52 injectors, as opposed to, say... S52 injectors?...

you can't just slap in bigger injectors hugo, sorry bud.

If you however are thinking of larger injectors and a PCIII to compliment your new cams and manifold.... let the games begin

and don't bother with S52 injectors, go with some type of ford injector.

Why is that? If I have the S52 cams with the M50 manifold, why couldn't the S52 injectors work. And what does ford have to do in the picture? They make BMW compatible injectors now?

BMW and Ford Injectors are interchangeable. I know you don't like to indiscriminately drop $$$ where you don't need to, hence the recommendation

Even with the cams and manifold, there will definitely be some more power lurking under there with a custom tune. However since your computer has a Mass Airflow sensor it's not as bad as it would be if it were MAP.

You can't just slap in bigger injectors, the ECU is tuned for the injectors you have, if you swap in larger injectors your idle fro example will be overly rich... the computer will try to compensate, in the end all you have is a big mess.

If you go PCIII (you'll actually need 2 units for a I6, K&N air filters had them on cheap last I checked) then you would install the injectors and re-tune the injector signal with the PC3 to compensate for their size......

check shawn fogg's site for details (quick google and you can't miss him).

Also, once you get the PC3 and larger injectors you are a 1-2 punch away from making your own custom

shit man, I just remembered you are canadian. save up for a TEC3 (not a PC3) and the wiring harness from Vic Sias and get some real power to the pavement

TEC3, PC3, this is all new to me.

Here's my plan : de-shark the car to allow the use of Eurosport High Performance's software, which was designed for the M50 manifold swap along with the S52 cams.

Now, with this under the hood, can I still use your TEC3 thingy, if I understand what it is and what it does, and who sells it and for how much? (Gee, that's a LOT of questions! )

And what does being a Canadian have to do with this?

injector flow rate is a big @!$#@!$!#@ secret according to BMW, I've picked up the bentley book, ETK, TIS, and none of them list it.

The only injector test spec I've seen is a leak test using compressed air, counting air bubbles....thanks BMW, that is very informative.

You could do this if you want to measure:
    1. pull the vacuum reference to the fpr.
    2. remove an injector and put it in a graduated cylinder.
    3. turn the key to "on" to pressurize the fuel system.
    4. use a jumper to short the injector to "on" and use a stopwatch to count off 30 seconds.
    5. read the cc of fuel in the graduated cylinder, multiply by 2.
    6. this is cc/min @ 3.5 bar (what 6-cylinder fuel pressure is supposed to be)

    7. cc/min at 3 bar = cc/min @ 3.5 bar * SQRT(3/3.5)
    8. lbs/min = cc/min @ 3 bar / 10.5

    Hey Hugo,
If I can't find a deal on cams as quick as you, will you Shark Injector work on my car?? Can a deal be struck between us fellow Canucks?

Hugo, you'll be pulling the injectors anyway to do the swap, right?

you could be an internet hero

the procedure is from bentley for the VW Passat, VW sells a nice cylinder set to test all injectors simultaneously (and is kind enough to give the specs)

I could look up the VW 2.8l size, it makes ~ the same hp as the BMW 2.8, 210cc/min @ 3 bar (20 lb/min) IIRC off the top of my head.

The S52 ones are 21.5 lbs, and with zenon's comments, I'm not sure I'd do that... Oh well...

"Eurosport High Performance's software, which was designed for the M50 manifold swap along with the S52 cams."
you're sound as a pound baby

TEC3 = complete afermarket ECU that can (with vic sias' adapter) plug right into the pre-existing wiring.... idiot proof to get her in there
this baby does your VANOS, your ignition your fuelijectors your AC EVERYTHING...stock ECU collects dust in the basement... This is the way to the *biggest* power, whichever path you choose

PC3 = this allows you to modify the signal to the injectors, with this you can make your own SC kit, use bigger injectors etc the only problem is that your ignition timing can't be altered. This KEEPS your ECU, it's basically just a piggyback.

"And what does being a Canadian have to do with this?"
    No emissions laws

With the TEC3 you can do ANYTHING from a manifold swap to a HUGE turbo....

    Tec 3

Hey Zenon, do you know if Tec 3 will also allow for methanol injection with a turbo? For that matter, anyone in here try using methanol injection with large volume s/c?

The problem would be to find an injector that can run with meth, if you can find that (an injector) the TEC3 should be able to run it.

Try looking @ drag racing forums, I think sprint cars (those things that run on dirt tracks with a huge wing that doubles for a roof) run meth too....

How's the stroker going BTW hobbs? How big is big when you say turbo

    Stroker

After having the first engine stolen, I finally have a long block back together. Displacement is slightly more than 3.4. As for F/I....anything running more than 9lbs in S/C format or greater than 21lbs. in a turbo. I am fighting the f/i bug. I kept my compression down on this engine just t allow for f/i.
