e36 M42 turbo build questions Help please

Starting off with 5psi with just injectors and will install and adapt emange befor going with anymore boost

The vacum system on this car realy blows my mind ... each injector has it's own air supply/vacum line and Im wondering how under boost these will react and what do I need to do to keep the vacum system working while under boost

I would like to run 310cc/29LB injectors but what brand of injectors will work with my m42 ? can the stock fuel pump keep up? low or high impodence ?

    Thanks!

Sooo... You want to run larger injectors.....on a stock tune

And what are you talking about, there are no vacuum lines going to fuel injectors

Another guy in ottawa here ran a e30 m42 with 7psi for a few weeks untuned 310cc injectors and the wideband O2 was showing very good mixture but he needed fuel and spark control befor he went to 12 psi and that is also my plan

yes my injectors have vacum or postive presure lines that goto the injector very small and there is a proper name for that system but I can't think of it for the world

    1. 5 psi you will not need bigger injectors.
-i would say above 8psi to do injectors (on a very reliable setup)

    2. Good luck

    3. hope you have the bank for the custom parts. You can go cheap but oviously that isnt going to last, so its up to you how to spend your money.

you can do a very reliable setup for $2000on your own time with the m42 ... I know because I have seen it

ebay e36 Universal intercooler and piping $300 (remember piping is piping dont get fooled by $1000 units because the ebay piping is OK!)

    Volvo V70 Turbo $400
    exhaust Piping $150
Emanage $500(requires electrical knowledge due to 5volt signal)
Oil Lines and coolant lines $100
    injectors $400
Wide Band 02 with meter $250
ebay m50 turbo manfold $99 ( must cut the last to cylinders off and weld a plug)
    pillar Gauges $200

Agree, was running 8 PSI with no issues on my SC setup with stock programing (although needed the bigger injectors + tuning with the 10 PSI I now have).
And stock fuel pump is enough to keep fuel flow for the 10 PSI I'm running now.

Current Mods....X-Brace, Stromung Cat Back Exhaust, 17/225/45 M3 Replicas, HotBits Adjustable Coil Overs, 40% LSD 3:91 Diff, E30 Gearbox, Boosted.

    ofc
Yes, in latest M42 and M44 engine the injectors are air shrouded... their diameter is bigger than standard bosch size injectors
if you want to put bigger injectors/standard bosch size on your engine, you need to buy some adapters (reducers) that Technique tuning sells.

why don't you buy a rising rate fpr for those 5psi of boost? better than nothing for sure

P.S.: stock injectors are high impedance.

    good luck!

Thanks for the imput !... jeff are you in a m44 or m42? Did you have any vacum issues? Can I keep all the vacum system stock or do I need to block some hoses off somewhere?? do I need a oil catch can at the valve cover?

    M44
No vacume issues as my old injector vacume line was seperate and directly off the intake boot (left other vacume hoses were they were).

My new injectors are off a Ford (mustang I think) PN: 028015094 with adapters to fit and no longer need the vacume line, so it's gone and plugged the hole were it used to get it's vacume from in the intake boot.

I do not have any issues that would need a oil catch can but turbo's like to foam\whip up the oil unlike SC's so I'd think you would need one.

I haven't seen any foam in my engine and I have a turbo as well in my e30 318is ,I'm running 10 psi on a stock engine, you might have other issues related with some coolant in oil or you drive very short distances and the oil doesn't get warm enough, the engine gets moisture inside ,or you have a wrong oil and:voila.Bearsbmw knows me ,I took him in to a short drive last Friday at m&m.I'm under George77 on the other forums .

This is all really basic stuff. You should probably find a good book and do some research.

Nothing is basic about a turbo setup for a newbie ...I just wan't to make sure I get everything right the first time and not have to cut twice ... Plus some of you guy's have realy good idea's that a book could never do justice .. thanks

I can understand that, but you really should understand the basics first then ask for opinions and advice. Starting a thread for nearly step by step guidance is the slower way to do a FI project because in some cases you may not know what questions to ask until you reach a road block.
