My 2002 vs Newish Mustang GT

I ran accross one this afternnon on my favorite backroad coming home from work. The road has some nice turns and a few nice straights. I like driving this road home because it has nice sight lines and is damn near empty all times of the day.

I spotted him when he was turning onto it and heard him get on it so I followed along getting a guage on how quick it might be. Looked to me like I should be able to hang so I closed the distance a bit and caught him on a sharp right hand turn, he spotted me and the game was on. He was on it agian coming off the corner so I glued myself to his butt to the next corner, I love the look of folks faces when they see a 33 year old BMW in the rear view hanging on to their muscle car. I just shadowed him from about 100 yards back from there to the freeway ( about 7 miles up the road ) and got a thumbs up from him as I was getting on the onramp as he continued on to town.

A little info on my deuce, turboed ( Holset HX30 ) running 15psi right now on Megasquirt.( too damn hot in the summer, it was 100 on the way home ) I run 24 psi winter time.

cool run, i recently ran a new modded gt (i say modded b/c of the loud exuast) and he pulled about a car length on me in the straights to about 115mph..i give respect to them as the older gt's were garbage, cobra's are exlcuded. if i saw a car like yours on my tail and pulling on me i would jump for joy..care to post some pics?

Nice. Looking at your car makes me want to trade my second DD (mini S) in for that.

neat car. Turbo'd M10's can be quite surprising. I'd take the mechanical buzz of an old bmw 4 cylinder to a v8 6/7 days of the week. On the 7th day, i shalt rest.

Just a warning, your sig is a bit on the large side - might wanna size it down a bit before kevlar comes after you like a hawk in the night

This is sorta OT but how would a turbo 2002 compare to a 2002 with an s14 swap?

Making the same HP as an stock S14 only takes about 12-13 psi. It all depends what you want to run. On pump gas with water/meth injection my car ( stock block with a cometic HG ) can only take about 19 psi when it's really warm outside ( and that's pushing it ) in the cool winter I've run 24. ( I have the MS setup to pull 1 deg of timing for every 4 deg of temp increase above 70 deg )

I've read that an well running S14 evo can put almost 270 to the ground and at 24 psi I'd guess the turboed M10 would be about the same ( I haven't dynoed, well because I don't care about #s, it'll make what it makes and no more )

I was wondering because my father had a 73 2002 tii just sitting in our garage and we havent worked on it in about 10 years. He heard about that M2 site (just google M2) where they say you can drop an s14 into the tii relatively easily. I dont know what'd we'd do with the tii motor tho. We already have 2 old 2002 motors w/ tranies hid in our garage.

If you want to build a hot rod go find a regular 2002, the tiis are becoming worth too much money to butcher up.

there's a guy on here that goes by JRCook320 who has a 320i with an m10 turbo running 12 psi that walks on e30 m3's. it's not hard to do. and you really don't need much power to enjoy a car as light as a 2002/e21

tii engines don't take to turbo's very well. and like the OP said, they're pretty valuable.

I dont think my dad would ever consider turboing his tii but after he saw that the S14 swap is basically a drop in (well nothing is a drop in, but its relatively easy for the 2002 - expecially the tii from what I hear) that is when he sorta considered it. I think the 2002 tii would be cool stock and as an "M2".

But since you never see tii's on the road or anywhere the stock set up would probably be cooler or more valuable.

Sorry if I sorta hijacked your thread OP. I love the 2002's and arent turboed ones as valuable or more than a tii?

A factory turbo yes, in the range of 40k or so, a bastard child like mine ehhh not so much. A real clean stock Tii is fetching 20k now.

Sorry to revive, I'm trying to get in touch with Pinepig, I'm thinking about running an HX30 as well. Not sure if your car is still around but I have some questions.
