I just bought a 99 323i with 195,xxx on the clock. Looks brand new, got it inspected and nothing major is wrong with it. Bought it for $2,500, so i think i got a good deal.

2000 323Ci @ 67,000 miles. I myself have only put about 1000 of those miles on it.

Yes, make sure you change your gas frequently and use only synthetic gas!

Honestly though, does anyone have an E46 with 200k miles ++?
I'm at approx 112k, should I have an extra 1,2,3k laying around in case of repairs?

Well, they're very reliable cars. Of course, like other cars, there are parts on these cars that will eventually need to be replaced. The water pump is one of them, for example. But as far as engine failure goes, if you take good care of your care and use good, quality oil that you change frequently, I'm willing to bet that apart from the regular parts that eventually go out, the engine will last a LONG time (knock on wood).

So I was told to have at least 1k in the bank just in case something breaks down on my car. At 19 years old that isn't an easy task but fortunately I got a raise at my job and have about 1.5k. =]] Thats after paying for books etc.

@ 112k miles I'm starting to replace the obvious parts (spark plugs, tensioner/belts) but I'm curious what major problems you guys have ran into?

I looked at my sub frame and it looks pretty solid IMO.
